Black Voters will come to Obama's Defense in SC the same way Women Came to Hillary's in NH
Count on it. There have been numerous articles and posts written about Black voters being turned off by the racial undertones in a lot that has come out of the Clinton camp. The same way older women came to Hillary's defense when they felt she was being treated unfairly in New Hampshire...Blacks will do the same exact thing in South Carolina in what many view as irrational attacks.

1. I'm sure you're right.
That IS the point of all this race baiting right before the SC primary, isn't it? To get the black vote for Obama?

How amazing that Hillary's campaign should be accused of it when the only one to benefit would be, oh wait for it...Obama.

But he personally has never raised the race card so it ain't his fault. Or the fault of the people he hired...now is it?

position on the IWR was a fairy tale, the Manchurian Muslim emails, Bob Kerry's "compliments," implying that he sold drugs???? Who did all those things? The Clintoons are reaping what they have sewn.

48. Obama attacked Baby Boomers when he announced his candidacy
Edited on Sun Jan-13-08 04:58 AM by unc70
Obama attacked and insulted Baby Boomers for all those issues they/we fought over in the 60's and which he saw being replay in the 90's. The latter was certainly a shot at the Clintons. Boomers should get over themselves, quit all those fights, embrace his new type of politics, and just move on.

So which fights, which issues do we throw overboard? Civil rights, gender equality, health care, environment, anti-war, ADA, GLBT, ...? Oh, where do we start? Where will it end?

And did you hear? Those same articles (e.g. NYT) are quick to remind us that Obama is also really cool!

2. I think it's kind of different
For example, Hillary choking up was an event that helped her among women without having to hurt her among men, at the same time.
But Whites may be turned off by a racially motivated backlash.

guess what? Nobody wins. But you do know who started it. It was the Clintons. They may win some battles in this white vs black thing they started, but they lose in the end. Because blacks will stay home come election day.

It should have never some to this. The Clintons started it and let it get out of hand in their desperation to win NH.

They thought they could "Sistah Souljah" Obama but I too believe it will backfire on them.

Sadly, Bill and Hillary believe if they could go to black churches and smoothtalk (Bill, not Hillary) their way into the heart of black voters, there are sadly mistaken.

4. The Black Community is making this an ethnic race issue.
They assume being Black is a power position for the black race..they are shoving it into the election with anger as their friend. It will backfire.

Experience will then take lead because the candidate of Hope is letting ethnic race become a "thuggery" position to the voters.

if you won't others surely will. Clinton surrogates started this and the Clintons didn't do enough to stop it. If you think alienating black voters is good for the Clintons in the long run, I've got a wakeup call for you: She could lose the general election if she's the nom because of all this.

as the Repukes, there is no longer a reason for blacks to vote Democrat. We KNOW the code words. We have heard them again and again and again over the years. It's very sad to hear them coming from the so-called first black president. First black president my ass.

15. Thuggery position, damn
I think the reactions to peoples objections is helping to fan this flame.

Some of you are not even listening to what the problem is with people in the "black community".

As long as this is America most blacks know that being black is not a power position.

No one is shoving anything. Insensitive remarks have been made and there are people ignoring by saying that nothing happened.

I'm actually surprised the Clintons allowed themselves to be in this position. Bill was The First Black President. Why didn't he know better.

I don't think for a minute that they are racists and most blacks don't feel that way either. Even your friends can hurt your feelings by saying something wrong.

of surrogates of the obama campaign and turn their backs on both Clintons. I have faith most will find how exactly what the hubbub is about and then once they view the bill clinton speech they will see there was nothing mean spirited said about Obama and once they see or read or hear what HRC said about MLK jr they too will see there was no disrespect....

Here again folks just post crap on here and lump all blacks into one monolithic group and say all will turn their backs on the Clintons.

37. John Kerry the democratic party's standard bearer? The one
that said he would contest any voting irregularities, and did not contest Ohio. The standard bearer that john edwards told to fight back against the swift boat folks, and didn't. The standard bearer that said, we cannot have a blame bush convention. That standard bearer? I feel sorry for Obama. John Kerry, arguably our least-liked Democrat (till Kissyface went to the Dark Side) picked John Edwards for VP in 2004 (after McCain turned him down, they say) and now, three years later, Edwards isn't deserving of Kerry's vote?
Edwards is either steaming or happy as hell, anybody know which? I say John is HAPPY AS HELL....

As for saying the Clintons are openly racist or using racial tactics to win is so absurd. After viewing bill clintons speech and the words "fairy tale" any objective person would know he was talking about the mediawhores that have not asked obama any questions in 15 debates about his conflicted answers concerning Iraq....Then you have HRC saying that MLK Jr brought the disgrace of America not giving all its citizens the same opportunites to the attention first to the nation and then to president Johnson and it was johnson who presented this to the congress and without johnson's leadership in getting this legislation passed it would have not passed. In no way was she being disrectful of MLK Jr.

It's folks in the obama campaign that are using this in hopes it will be to their advantage, but will not....

30. Those blacks don't care. They want Bill, and they get Bill through Hillary.
Besides, there's also the

* 'a vote for Obama is a wasted vote since the party will never allow a black man to head the ticket' contigent
(do you agree or disagree with them?)

* the 'a vote for Obama is being an accessory to murder' contigent
(do you agree or disagree with them?)

* and a growing number of 'I have to prove I have an independent mind by NOT voting for the candidate who happens to be black' contigent.

Hillary doesn't have to worry about voters who think that way; but Obama does. Race trumps sex.

Or do you disagree?

The women of New Hampshire voted for flaky reasons (and the Bradley effect).

I would hope blacks would do better.

Obama got MORE votes than the Republican primary winner. He lost because he didn't get the expected percentage of the indy voter turnout. Not because NH wouldn't vote for him.

And in some cases had Hillary ahead. The pollsters weighed the indy vote because of what happened in Iowa and the projected numbers turning out for NH voting. But Mc Cain and Hillary also got a good chunk of the indys.

I posted about it here earlier - with links to a couple of the pre-polls:

It is very sad both campaigns decided to make this about race and not substance. Since whites outnumber blacks six to one Hillary will beat Obama. The Obama campaign mortgaged their campaign to win South Carolina. This will help Edwards as he will become the alternative for whites voters defecting from Obama.

It's all about the Latino vote now, heh.

Besides, how many blacks in your community were already talking about party jumping to Ron Paul or Huckabee, even before Hillary ever made any of her remarks or her surrogates made theirs?

There's a splintering going on that's a long time in the making. It'll happen in dribs and drabs, but the effect in the end will be the same. People aren't going to be so static in their political affiliations anymore.

So, how do Democrats resolve that? or do Democrats act like some posters here, and claim they don't care, those votes don't matter anyway?

not to mention the word black, or anytihng that anybody could associate with it at this point. her dumb comment about MLK, however innocent she meant it, she should damage control that herself as fast as she can. that way things that AREN'T her fault and are not racist are less likely to be dumped on her campaign.

and as a black person, the last thing i want is black people, (including myself) feeling resentful of her during her presidency. it's an awful feeling and no one should have to feel like their president used race to win. it's ugly. :(
