Won't post ANY opinion about Hillary or Obama because I don't care to be vilified as sexist or
racist by their support droids.

Is this what you really want? The disgust that replaces participation?

Why would some want to chill all discussion?

It's like the Salem Witch trials around here lately. Scarey, scarey stuff. I thought we were better than this .

1. I hear ya. However, I respectfully disagree
If we don't take the opportunity to vet our candidates -- is this something we want the (R) camp to hand us in September?

Discredit the nonsense now, IMO.

8. Well, of course you do! (Disagree)
Who wouldn't?

I'm just saying that some followers of Clinton and Obama have become so rabid with their accusations of racism and sexism that the rest of us have to cross the street and walk the other way in order to avoid them. I'm thinking of carrying pepper spray.

3. I don't think you have any reason to be perching yourself on
a high horse about anything, given your propensity to call supporters of Clinton and Obama insulting names. But it is kind of funny that you blithely preach to others while engaging in that stuff.

12. You started off your post by calling Clinton and Obama supporters
"droids". Sorry, that is not a term of endearment. It's an insult.

6. Then you're letting them win by shouting you down.
They both suck. I don't give a crap who calls me what for saying so.

7. I disagree that all supporters resort to name calling but I say
you should express your views on any candidate whether they be positive or negative. I have the belief that most all folks here on the DU have a sense of decency about them and know what is acceptable. I believe that in ones day to day they carry forth that same decency towards others and just because there is this wall of white, one would not write different then how they would speak or interact with others about this campaign.

10. I've never been accused of anything like that.
Then again, I only discuss issues and presentation. I don't give a rat's ass what race or gender a candidate happens to be.

11. You could try actually discussing their positions.

If you are discussing Clinton's stance or Obama's on NAFTA for example, you won't hear a complaint out of me.

If the only way you can envision "participating" in the discussions is to discuss her or her campaign in sexist ways, or him/his campaign in racist ways, then I'm not particularly worried if people call you out for that, and you feel discouraged from participating as a result.

There is a difference between discussing policy, which should be encouraged, and discussing candidates in misogynistic/racist ways, and frankly if all the folks who feel compelled to do that were run off the forum, I wouldn't miss them.

I don't support Clinton OR sexism, just as I don't support Obama OR racism. So I will speak out against all 4 of those, as appropriate.

I don't know your posting history at all, but since you bring up the subject of disgust, I am a little disgusted that you are equating the witch trials - which were a tragic example of misogyny used to justify torturing and killing women - to people who speak out against misogyny.
