Kerry will be President of the United States: What do you want him to do,
I firmly believe that Kerry will be President of the United States in January of 2005.

The best thing he will do is to replace that bastard Bush. But what next? Do we have 8 years of a so-so changes from the political way-right to the not-so-far-right? Or are we gonna get some liberal issues passed?

What will happen with Iraq? What will happen with Gay rights? What will happen with the economy? Jobs? Trade? Environment? Immigration? Health Care? Get better yes, I am sure, but how much better and in what ways?

What positive definitive changes will President John F. Kerry make between 2005 and 2013 besides not being Bush?

1. Arrest the Entire Bush Crime Family on the Inauguration Podium
He could resign right afterwards and go down as one of the greatest presidents in history.

4. Not much besides undoing the damage
I really can't see him taking exceptional strides for progressivism, especially if he's fettered by a GOP congress.

7. Talk..
Ginsburg, Stevens, Breyer, & Souter all into retiring one at a time.

Then, he needs to replace each of them with 30-something lifetime liberals who have excellent genetic health traits so that they can sit on the bench for the next 40 to 50 years.

8. He could have an epiphany and go PROGRESSIVE, if not
then I, for one, will be looking for a candidate in the following election who IS progressive--at least a person who is concerned about the ENTIRE population of america, not just the invested class and not one who continues to aspire for American domination of the entire world.

9. Before he gets started on everything
I have a request for 2 things:

Appoint a new 9/11 commission, with public hearings, & really report to the American people what really happened.

Have a real investigation into Iraq War, with public hearings, & report to the American people why we went to war on false intelligence.

When the results of these 2 investigations are complete, the Bush Administration will have been completely discredited, & shown to be the liars & criminals they truly are.

13. Things I want Kerry to do.
Edited on Fri Feb-27-04 03:19 AM by coloradodem2004
Undo nearly everything that Bush has done. Except the No-Call List. Make a real canned-spam act. Repeal the Tellecommunications Act, and the DMCA. Start working on new fuel sources, with renewable energy and eventually hydrogen. Get the U.N. involved with Iraq. Repeal any questionable Patriot Act legislation that would be left over. Stop the outsourcing of jobs. Work on a real space program, not this bull shit that shrub is doing. That is all I can think of right now.

15. cut defense spending....
Work towards fair trade. CUT ALL US DEALINGS WITH AUTHORITARIAN DICTATORSHIPS. Stop economic interventions in countries that oppose it (i.e. stealing other countries natural resources, like we loved/love to do in our backyard).

STOP CORPORATE LOBBYISTS or at least create an even ground with lobbyist for the peoples interest.

Thats some of the shit I want. I know Kerry wont do much of it... if any.

16. Here's an easy one for him
Sign an executive order allowing people in the US to buy their presription drugs from Canada!

The drug companies have robbed us for long enough. This will sure as hell get their attention.

That should be easy to do. Now for one of the things I really want him to do: I want him to get the United States back the respect around the world that we lost during the hell that was the Bush Admin. After he does that maybe we can get the help we need to get the hell out of Iraq!

I would love for him to appoint a REAL commision to look into 9/11 but I'm afraid we will never know what happened or was allowed to happen.

19. If, he becomes the president,
Seeking a just solution for peace in the Middle East and having an even-handed policy towards Palestinians and Israelis would be a great start. This would include dismantling the wall, the illegal settlements, and full Palestinian statehood.

20. Flush "Don't ask, don't tell"
It has harmed our national security and should be shit-canned as soon as possible.

Get ENDA passed. Get hate crimes legislation passed. Install some bulldog like Henry Waxman at DOJ. Install someone who knows their ass from their elbow at DOEd. End the erosion of women's rights. Kiss 'n make-up with Europe and the UN.

In the second hundred days ...

22. Top priorities:
Get the horrible budget situation under control by raising taxes on the upper 2% and making some responsible cuts. Then, make sure we stop destroying the earth's ecosystem: I'd like him to sign Kyoto, develop alternative, low-pollution, renewable energies, and maybe try starting a voluntary recycling program throughout the U.S.

23. The most important thing is the budget. He must take a stronger position
than he has. Cutting it in half by the end of the decade is not good enough. Also, you can't afford any new programs unless you make MASSIVE tax increases. The long term budget situation is such that you can't do anything else.

24. What do I want him to do?
Renounce the Patriot Act. Endorse Gay marriage. Insist upon an amendment which prevents America from ever again pursuing a unilateral, unjustified war...ok, that may be extreme, but dammit, the US cannot be the loose cannonball no matter who is in office. What the hell happened to checks and balances?

I would like to see him have the balls to prevent genocide in any nation.

I want him to guarantee the health care of my kids.

And I don't expect him to do any of these things even though I expect he'll win the White House.

I am slowly giving up on this notion of individuals fighting for a communal effort. My wife, my kids, that's what I protect. Screw the rest.
