Drudge: National Journal ranks Kerry 'most liberal in senate' |
|
Sorry, it's Drudge. But I thought you all might get a good laugh out of it: http://www.drudgereport.com/mattjk11.htmNUMBER ONE: KERRY RANKED 'MOST LIBERAL' IN SENATE ROLL CALL VOTES, TOPS KENNEDY, CLINTON
NATIONAL JOURNAL on Friday claimed Democrat frontrunner John Kerry has the "most liberal" voting record in the Senate.
The results of Senate vote ratings show that Kerry was the most liberal senator in 2003, with a composite liberal score of 96.5 -- far ahead of such Democrat stalwarts as Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton.
NATIONAL JOURNAL's scores, which have been compiled each year since 1981, are based on lawmakers' votes in three areas: economic policy, social policy, and foreign policy.
"To be sure, Kerry's ranking as the No. 1 Senate liberal in 2003 -- and his earning of similar honors three times during his first term, from 1985 to 1990 -- will probably have opposition researchers licking their chops," NATIONAL JOURNAL reports.
Developing... (meaning Drudge can't back any of this up)

GOOD! Fuck everyone who thinks being liberal is bad! Fuck them and the horse they rode in on!! I'm sick and tired of people treating "liberal" like a four letter word while those motherfucking conservatives piss on the flag and the Constitution continually and get away with it! I hope Kerry rides his 96.5% rating all the way to the White House!!! GOD THAT PISSED ME OFF!!

9. John Kerry's response to those who seek to label him as "liberal" |
|
http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/nation/ny-uskerr283645552jan28,0,979730.story?coll=ny-nationalnews-headlinesAs for being attacked as a liberal, Kerry said, "If being that means I want decent schools for people in the South; if being that means I want health care for every single American, and I want a system that makes sense; if being that means I want to balance the budget and be responsible fiscally and not leave our children with debt ... I'll take that anywhere in the country." - John Kerry Give 'em hell, JK!

3. If 'liberal' is the worst they can label Kerry... |
|
... than he'll do just fine.
The GOP has used the word "liberal" to label, smear, marginalize anyone that isn't part of their team for so long that its lost its punch. Now that a real liberal has rolled around onto the national stage, they've already worn out its effectiveness.

4. This makes me want to support Kerry |
|
more than anything I've seen him say. I want to see him defiantly stand up for that Liberal record. I think that would really get me on board. I'm certainly no die-hard Kerry hater, like some in this forum, I just found other candidates much more inspiring and exciting. I worry that the career politician in Kerry will try to duck this Liberal tag, and I think that's a mistake. Bush & Co. shouldn't have too much trouble affixing Kerry with the Liberal tag, so I definitely agree that he should stress what that really means -- that it's a positive thing: "Yes, I'm Liberal! I believe in the basic civil rights of all people, in the fundamental responsibility of government to its citizens, and in a foreign policy rooted in wisdom and compassion. George Bush, on the other hand, is liberal with our money, our soldiers' lives, and our country's future. So, which Liberal do you want in the White House?" Now THAT would get me out canvassing for Kerry.

Kerry is trying to walk such a fine line, trying to run on his liberal record while rushing toward the center for votes, and trying to play up his war experience, his anti-war activism, his IWR vote, and his opposition to Bush's rush to war all at once.
