If we have high gas prices as predicted this summer Bush is finished |

If we have, as predicted very high gas prices this summer Bush is finished. If we go all summer with negative stories in the news about high gas prices Bush will not be able to recover in time for the election. Honestly the gas prices are high enough now that this should be an issue. Although I don't think the Dems should make a big deal about it right now because first if we make a stink of it now and the prices fall it will be a plus for Bush. Second I am not sure we have a good plan to get the prices down.

1. Look for another ANWR push from Smirky McFlightSuit |
|
"We have to find alternative sources to fuel shortages."
Don't look for him to open up the national reserves, either, the way Clinton did.

3. Don't be surprised to see him siphoning gas from the Reserve. |

Republicans assailed Clinton for doing that in 2000. Don't expect them to offer similar criticism of Shrub for doing it in 2004. :eyes:

is how we won't get a drastic reduction in prices till 2020 or something. God it's so frustrating to listen to morons like Limbaugh and Coulter and Hannity go on about the necessity in drilling for oil in the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge.
eh i meant to reply to the first reply, not the original message, oh well...

If Gas Prices go up signficantly and if our candidate talks about it. Those are two ifs, but either could come true. Bryant Check it out --> http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com

What is a Democrat, with a hostile Republican Congress, going to say he's going to DO about 'high gas prices'?
The RNC has been planting the seed of GOP = Cheap Gas forever. B*sh in 2000 talked about what a bunch of mealymouthed p*ssies Clinton/Gore were (when gas was driven artificially high by B*sh's Saudi pals to effect the election) and that he'd "talk" to them if he won.
Well, 3 1/2 yrs later and his 'talking to his pals' hasn't done SH*T about alleviating any energy concerns. Yet, polls show voters think the "GOP Knows Petrol". Why? Cuz we're a nation of morAns, but I still want to know what the Dem candidate is going to suggest that's any better than B*sh's policy other than "no way ANWR drilling" to which the GOP-controlled Congress will scream:
"Kerry WANTS high gas prices! He's a COMMIE! If ONLY we could drill the sh*t out of ANWR, we'd have PLENTY of gas and it'd go back down to $1/gallon!!!!!". And their Saudi pals will make certain gas prices stay high for the first year of a Dem presidency.
"Kick their ass and take their gas" seems to work better in the pea brained minds of Americans than:
"I'm going to give tax incentives to develop hybrid/alternative fuel transportation, I'm going to double the public transportation budget, I'm going to have a smart growth/inner city revitalization administration so people will WANT to live near their work, I'm going to sink $500billion over the next decade into Solar, Wind, Geothermal, cogen, Fusion, etc"
"Duuuuuuuh, let's just kick their ass and take their gas!!!!!! I don't WANT to do without my 5.7L Ram Hemi or my H2!!!!!"

Bush* basically said "elect me & you'll have cheap gas"
and then there was the whole right-wing meme that invading Iraq would mean cheap gas, etc....
You would think the ONE THING this administration would do well in is negotiating low prices, even if it is a totally artificial scam.
They can't even get us FAKE low gas prices!

He'll point to lack of passage of his Energy bill, no ANWR drilling, etc. Not that either would matter.
Gas prices will rise and we will all be responsible for it.
The U.S. had an opportunity 30 years ago to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. We did pretty good for a few years. Now sprawl has come to define suburban living. SUVs guzzle gas. People drive across the parking lot because they're too damn lazy to walk.
At some point prices will explode. China will be making increasing demands on world oil. Sooner or later we will learn a hard lesson.
You can't live like pigs at a trough forever.
