Democrats are sick of the fear mongering and will be very receptive to his terrorism remarks. He also got everybody's position on Iraq clarifid, as well as pointing out the media screwed it up. He pointed out he introduced mortgage reform legislation over a year ago. He was confident and reassuring. He did great. Hillary had details, but got lost in the minutia. Edwards was steady.

I don't think he did poorly by any means, but I've seen him do better. I think it was just an off night for him by a little bit.

I think they all did very well. I liked Hillary better, but Obama was a very close second.
I think the M$M is trying to re-anoint Hillary as the "inevitable" to cause controversy.
There wasn't much else for them to scream about because all the candidates were right on on message tonight. Good for them!

considering that he got sandbagged with all the double whammies and surprises, as usual, while Hilly got one soft scripted talking point after another, as usual.
Same thing last week. For example, she knew that likability question was coming.

It's Hillary all the Way.
Oh yeah, and give Edwards some, so he can come in 2nd.
But watch the debate a 2nd time, and those who do will see that Obama is the superior candidate.

20. I noticed a lot of rigging in the questions. |
|
Like when back Hilly's questions was a little sermonette on terra she'd delviered two weeks ago. Obama had to go first on the hard ones, who had back-to-back answers, etc. Obama regularly gets the shaft and hilly always gets the bully pulpit.

26. No, I think it's an issue of technical debate scoring vs. general impression. |
|
If you're scoring the debate, perhaps Hillary had more thorough and technical answers to some of the issues questions.
But that is lost on your average American who just goes by the impression they received. And impression-wise, Obama clearly won. -Hillary's volume and tone fluctuated too much. Not to mention that, as she speaks louder, she speaks faster -Obama seemed to dictate the flow, taking the time he wanted, asking others to clarify their answers -Obama repeatedly phrased things "so that the American people can understand it" and that goes over well with us average-folk -Only Obama connected with the crowd. That's huge. He was the more personable candidate.
The list goes on.

17. I thought they all did well. I thought Obama did extremely well, |
|
and I thought Hillary got defensive a couple of times, used "I, I, I . . . ." to much, and when she was defensive she was really loud.
Everything she did tonight, she's done before and Tweety hated it.
Tonight it's a home run, at least to Tweety and company.
I heard Jonathan Capeheart saying something as I walked through the room along the lines of Obama needed to really take it to Hillary, but he pulled his punches.
I thought he took it to her, in a firm but polite way, but I think the media types wanted hair, teeth and eyeballs all over the stage.

22. He did well. The media wants to see mudwrestling and will say anything |
|
to provoke it. There is nothing wrong with being an Obama partisan. The media has ignored, demonized, prodded, and outright lied about every candidate running. They seem to be going with the Edwards provided all the policy foundations for Obama and Clinton now. They want a long, excited pitched battle that gets ratings. The Democrats tried to shut that down this evening, and so the media will attack again.

24. It depends on whether you're a political analyst or an average American. |
|
If you're a political analyst, scoring the debate in technical terms *maybe* Hillary did better...
But if you're an average American, Obama's your winner. He dictated the tone of the debate. He remained poised and calmed while other seemed rattled. He joked. He alone got some sort of reaction out of the crowd. Your unsavvy, average debate watcher who doesn't know how many points a rebuttal gets, saw a Barack Obama looking very much like a President.
I think that's what the divide is all about.
And tomorrow, once the analysts put their scorecards away and the debate is hacked into sound-bites and brief clips, Obama is going to be the clear winner.
Just wait.

29. I thought they each did well.... |
|
All of them did very, very well.
It's not you. Obama had a great night. He was dignified, personable, and he pointed out lots of legislation that he co-sponsored.
Did you notice the exchange after Obama explained his "I'm not a bureaucrat" quotes that he said this afternoon? Hillary totally had a speech ready to go, in response to that (as I said she would) and she equated Obama with Bush! She actually said that this is what we saw with George Bush...he wasn't good with details, he wasn't good with the bureaucracy, and we got Katrina, etc." Obama totally hit it out of the ballpark when he said that Bush actually WAS a good bureaucrat, "He was on time for meetings and he probably never misplaced a piece of paper...". Then Obama said that where George Bush lacked, was in his bad judgment about the Iraq war...and he launched into how bad the war was and how he was against it from the beginning.
Truly...a shining moment for Obama.
She tried to own him and he masterfully handed it back to her in spades.
Hillary did do well. However, she always seems so scowly to me...unpleasant. She talks like she's lecturing. However, she is articulate and very knowledgeable. She did score some points with her "question" to Obama...asking him to join her in preventing George Bush from making policies that span beyond his tenure. This was obviously a ploy to position herself as the leader and Obama and Edwards as her co-opted helpers. Played well, I have to say. However, it WAS an obvious debate tactic.
Obama came off very centered and presidential. He did make a few jokes and he seemed very comfortable.
I came away thinking that he won, hands down. Then I listened to Tweety and it was hard to judge what happened!
They all did VERY well tonight. I also think that Obama continues to improve in debates.
