Dean supporters may as well vote Dean Tuesday. |
|
I have not seen so much negative Dean threads and posts today since Iowa. I have to vote Tuesday in Ohio. I may as well just vote Dean ....I definitely don't want to vote Kerry and all my Dean Meet-Up friends feel the same way. Its the Edwards vote that I was going to cast. I wish to thank the Edward supporters for keeping me on track.
Too many anti-Dean Edward posters here today.
Vote Dean March 2, 2004 in Ohio!

for over a year. I worked hard on the campaign and loved every minute .....still believe in the good fight.
I was wanting to make a responsible vote, and have been working with the Ohio Edwards Campaign since Wisconsin.....They have been very appreciative of our work....but I'm really disappointed in the Edward supporters here at DU.

First, you shouldn't let posters on these boards decide who deserves your vote. You yourself should choose which candidate suits you best.
To the thread you linked: In the same post you say: "kerry is an opportunistic political failure......he is a resume builder....not a liberal." You also said that Kerry went to Vietnam for his resume and for the photo op, that his wounds speak for themselves. Is that what you understand under respectable debate ? According to your reasoning that should drive anybody away from Dean. How can you throw around something like this, yet you are attacking other people for their "mean" behaviour ? That's a mystery for me. Maybe before you point out the behaviour of other posters here, you should think about your behaviour as well?

69. Dean is out of the race. He maybe accepting votes |
|
but he won't get the required 15% in my Ohio District. I can indeed vote Dean but I was wanting to cast a vote for a practical candidate ...thus Edwards is my next option.
So, noting kerry's weaknesses and with Dean out of the race, I think it would be reasonable for Edward supporters at least appear genuine when referencing Dean...a non-threatening candidate.
kerry never was an option and I seriously find it ridiculous for a kerry supporter to be on the fence with choosing between Dean and kerry on Tuesday. It is not going to happen so no need to charm them, just share the facts.

views on kerry. After Wisconsin, I decided to look at Edwards, work in this Dayton, Ohio Campaign and hear his message. Steve Chaffin, Ohio Dean Campaign Manager brought me into the Edwards Camp...but DU also reflects the candidate's views and positions. It has an impact when one is ambivalent.
Your frustration with me does not have power.
This was before Feb. 17th.....before Dean backed down.... I still won't vote kerry, and said so in this thread too.

The post simply showed from a very recent thread that you hever intended to support Kerry anyway, and that you planned to "live by the sword, die by the sword" and support Dean to the end.
I don't have frustration with you, just pity that you are so controlled by the behavior of others.

was before Wisconsin.....It was Feb. 17th when Dean re-evaluated his Presidential campaign. My reference post was 6 days prior.....
I still am devoted to Dean, but in Ohio, in my district, he will not get 15%. I definitely won't vote kerry.....nothing has changed there....I've been working with the Dayton, Ohio Edwards campaign.
I just find it fruitless to have Edwards supporters trash, attack and insult Dean, a non threatening candidate who's supporters are open to casting a vote for Edwards. When one has to make the tough choice, the smart choice, such behavior is not encouraging.
This is from the Ohio Edwards Campaign: DU Edwards folks have been countering this movement with Dean supporters.

Edward supporters can and very well may tick me off enough to say, " Oh, what they Hey.....I'll vote Dean if they are so hateful". I could easily feel that frustrated and be impulsive. I prefer to keep a logical sense about this vote...it is important. I will be sad if I don't vote Dean but I can live with it now.......just by a little bit and by my dislike for kerry most of all.
I suggest you take the time to read this thread as the explanations are in detail.... Or, you just are fussy and wish to over analyze me for the fun of it. ...What ever....I'll teach you anything you wish. I have patience for those who really need it. Let me know...

Edward supporters here alienate Dean supporters. For that matter so do kerry supporters as they can easily take the championship in that catagory.
I have always anticipated the day I could punch in Dean on the ballot.......but I don't want kerry....who would be the one to knock-out kerry...EDWARDS.

When? You may just be stuck with me again unless I've actually gotten into the Nursing program by that point.:) PM me and let me know the details.
Do we even get a ballot with the caucus system. I thought it was just people getting together and standing for a particular candidate and if they don't have 15% then they don't count.
Maybe the Colorado caucus is different, I don't really understand how it works at all. I guess I'll learn more by April.
If I can't caucus for Clark, I will probably try to caucus for Kucinich.

Edited on Sat Feb-28-04 07:19 PM by Woodstock
So some silly people here turn this into a Junior High School popularity contest, and I'm going let THAT influence my vote for president of the United States?
The people who ticked you off today are NOT John Edwards. Vote for John Edwards or not based on John Edwards. I doubt he would condone childish behavior on his behalf.

62. Vote for Dean if you want |
|
You and your MeetUp friends don't want to vote for Kerry, so vote for Dean. Then vote for Nader in November.
You appear not to care about Kerry now. It would be interesting to see why you don't.
So why would you vote for the Democrat in November when you can vote for another person who distorts the record and is in the race for his own ego? Vote for Bush and not have to go through the middle man.

64. I have to say I don't get the vote for Dean part myself |

I've been a strong Dean supporter myself, but I'm not voting for someone who is no longer running. It just doesn't make sense.
I truly wish he had done like Clark, and bowed out gracefully, preferably endorsing someone. This move of I'm out of it, but vote for me, has left Dean's supporters in a state of limbo - and they are very divided now, where they might have been united for a cause.

65. I couldn't agree more |

I thought Clark did a class act by leaving the race when he did and endorsing Kerry.
Like you said, Dean didn't really leave the race. While I respect most of Dean's supporters and understand their intentions, my respect for Dean greatly diminished when he played the Golden Carrot card to his supporters by not truly dropping out of the race and endorsing a candidate.
Frankly, I'm not sure Edwards, Kucinich or Kerry would want his endorsement anyway. I'm sure Al Gore knows not to call them with his endorsement either.

67. That's good to know that you don't need our money, our time or our vote |
|
Saves me a lot of effort!
In response to several of posters above: Dean did not leave any of those supporters who listened to him, confused. He said he was not campaigning now, but he did ask for our vote, because our (yes, ours, not just Dean's) message will still be heard at the convention.
I will vote in the General Eleciton for ABB, but until then I will vote my choice, which is Dean!

75. We'll have to agree to disagree on Dean's approach |

From what I've observed, there was great confusion in the aftermath of Dean's non-withdrawal withdrawal from the race - one minute a motivated, mobilized army of supporters, the next minute, disorientation through all levels. Had Dean endorsed Edwards, for instance, some might have dropped out, but I bet a lot would have continued the fight on his behalf. Dean might have even officially withdrawn and led the charge to support the whole field. I'm not the only one - in the world outside DU, anyway - that doesn't want to vote for someone who isn't really in the race. And I find the Kerry bashing among some Dean supporters a real turnoff. I'm leaning towards Edwards, but Kerry, though he has his flaws, is a good man, and so much better than Bush it's insulting to even compare them. I'll do whatever I can to help Kerry if he's the nominee and be happy to have him our president.

I have heard Edwards has been making overtures to Dean (there were direct quotes from him to this effect.) I'm sure he'd love Dean's endorsement. I'm sure Kerry wouldn't mind having lots of enthusiastic unpaid Democratic grassroots volunteers on his side, either.
As for Gore, he picked someone he thought was standing up for a new direction he felt the party desperately needed. And I'm sure he will enthusiastically back the eventual nominee. That Edwards or Kerry don't want the endorsement of the guy who won the last presidential election is highly doubtful, too.

I'm caucusing for Dean on tuesday, and will use my influence to get delegates pushed who will support a progressive agenda. My caucus vote is for ABK/ABE. A couple of sure losers IMO. and betrayers of democratic values (at least in the last year)
Obviously, between the Johns, Kerry has the most significantly liberal voting record, but this last year brought them both into McCain territory for me.

I hope to god any Dean supporter would still vote for their guy if he was still on the ballot. I know I will be in my primary even tho hes not officially 'campaigning' anymore.
GO DEAN!
