John Edwards is Cuter Than John Kerry
1960 Redux

Kennedy vs. Nixon

Edwards is quick on his feet, seems trustworthy and will make Bush sweat through his TV makeup.

Edwards has no Fonda/Vietnam burden and is the son of a millworker.

Gravitas?

Leave that to the PR people.

Edwards can win the White House back to the Democratic Party. Hopefully, he is a man of scruples with a sense of justice.

None of this means that I don't think Theresa Heinz Kerry isn't HOT!

She's definitely a MILF.

3. Yeah, but
Junior's a common guy kinda guy, while Kerry's the stuffy Principal who told you at length how he really didn't want to have to put you in detention for a month, but that circumstances warranted it and regrettably, the agony you'd have to endure, although not truly your fault, was definitely resultant from your actions and would bring him a somewhat doleful remorse as he did his duty.

TV is the key, and Edwards is telegenic and joyous, even when hammering home a point.

When Bill Maher asked him what he thought of being derided as the Breck Girl, Edwards replied: "Oh, I'm prettier than the Breck Girl."

In the quick hits and moments of personability necessary, this guy really shines. Also, next to the real thing, Junior's faux-folksiness will be such an obvious lie that his face will melt on screen like that old "Outer Limits" episode.

Think of the debate: Kerry will win, in a dry clinical kind of way, leaving quibble room for the pundits, and distaste in the yokel's mouths. Edwards will parry all the attacks, and hit hard with the class warfare attacks; Bush will be slaughtered, and many people will see him for the nasty little fraud he is.

2. Edward's appearance causes him to seem superficial
through no fault of his own. Unless he wants to attract pre-pubscient girls, he suffers from the dumb blonde syndrome.

Kerry's focus on his appearance speak to a lack of depth.

Lacks foreign policy experience.

People will ask themselves if they can see Edwards or Kerry holding the megaphone at ground zero. My bet is they would go with Kerry.

Bush wins with so many white males because he exudes a "tough guy" persona.

6. It's 2004 & I so wish that choosing a president wasn't like choosing
a detergent via help from Madison Avenue.

I've heard discussions where the issues were absent. All I heard were topics concerning the candidates' appearance, personality (charisma), image, etc., a page taken from the Dale Carnegie seminars on how to sell.

I'd welcome opinions 180 degrees to mine as long as the issues were being considered and the shallow veneers were put aside.

7. How trustworthy do you think people
will find Edwards once they get a look at his personal injury career and his phony populist image is exposed?

“In 1985, a 31-year-old North Carolina lawyer named John Edwards stood before a jury and channeled the words of an unborn baby girl.”

"She speaks to you through me," the lawyer went on in his closing argument. "And I have to tell you right now — I didn't plan to talk about this — right now I feel her. I feel her presence. She's inside me, and she's talking to you."

“Over time, Mr. Edwards became quite selective about cases. Liability had to be clear, his competitors and opponents say, and the potential award had to be large. "He took only those cases that were catastrophic, that would really capture a jury's imagination," Mr. Wells, a defense lawyer, said. "He paints himself as a person who was serving the interests of the downtrodden, the widows and the little children. Actually, he was after the cases with the highest verdict potential. John would probably admit that on cross-examination." http://www.nytimes.com/2004/01/31/politics/campaign/31EDWA.html?ex=1390885200&en=4fb97ac07a96f186&ei=5007&partner=USERLAND

“ Edwards, who comes from a state where banking is big business, played a critical role in brokering legislation to allow banks to sell mutual funds and insurance, and to engage in other speculative ventures. This law, worth hundreds of billions to the banks, blasted a gigantic hole in the Glass-Steagal banking law’s firewall of protections designed to prevent the kinds of bank collapses that marked the Great Depression of the ’30s — meaning that it put the money of Joe Six-Pack depositors at risk.” (A Populist Make-Over Meet John Edwards, the Corporate Man, http://www.dissidentvoice.org/Jan04/Ireland0129.htm
