Kerry supports MA constitutional amendment banning gay marriage... |
|
Edited on Sun Feb-29-04 09:57 AM by darboy
Dean does not...
(In fairness, Kerry's support requires that civil unions be left as an option)
Outrage.
there is a difference between being uncomforatble with gay marriage, but not wanting to change the constitution to take it away,
and being embarassed by the issue in front of the swing voters...

2. In most countries, church marriage isn't legal. |
|
You still have to get a civil license to get marriage benefits and legal protections. (This is a real separation of church and state, IMHO.)
Dems just need to articulate this issue better.

again "proving" that liberals are anti-god and want to remove christianity from everything. It would backfire with alot of swing voters.

3. Support for a constitutional amendment |
|
constitutes pandering to, primarily, fundamentalist theocrats - of evangelical and/or roman catholic persuasion - for votes, at extreme cost to civil liberties. What is the difference between Kerry and Bush* on this? I can't see any, frankly.
One of my favorite lines that Dr Dean used to say frequently: "and we won't have to listen to those fundamentalist preachers anymore!!!"
Alas, it looks like we'll be forced to listen and kowtow to the fundies for at least another four years no matter the outcome in Nov.
NBD '08.
No one but Dean in '08
