Just in case anyone hasn't seen the "Hillary as Tracy Flick" video yet
Edited on Mon Jan-21-08 02:43 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
I am sure this has been posted several times, but it's SO GOOD that nobody should miss it.

ELECTION is one of my favorite films, and this satirical video is both entertaining and meaningful... it speaks to truths about the current campaign dynamic. And, like most good art, it is not propognada... supporters of either contender can chose to be offended or proud of the depiction of their candidate.

For anyone who hasn't seen ELECTION, the Obama analogy is to the star quarterback and most likable guy in school who enters the class president race at the last minute, upsetting eager-beaver workaholic Tracy Flick's fastidious plans for student council dominance. Tracy Flick is an unsympathetic character in the film and her opponent is preternaturally likable but, for all her faults, one can easily argue that Tracy is the more responsible choice in the context of the film. But she's horrible. So there's something for everyone.

PS: The tribal chants one the soundtrack are from ELECTION. They are used throughout the movie to represent Tracy's inner rage and are not a racist addition made by the video satirist. (Her opponent in the film is a white suburban boy.)

3. I like Hillary, but I like having a sense of humor more. It's hilarious!

5. Obama is just about the opposite of Tracey's opponent, isn't he?
If I remember the movie, the guy was a big dumb white guy who couldn't give a speech to save his life.

About the only thing they have in common is their popularity. But Hillary....sometimes I think she IS Tracy Flick.

8. His only similarity to Obama is his easy grace
He has the intangible qualities of leadership and likability she will never have, and it drives her crazy. She thinks all rewards should be predictably tied to hard work.

But, of course, Barack Obama is vastly more capable, intelligent, hard-working and serious than the quarterback. The only parallel is that both are just gifted... those people who just have "it"

4. I was very wishy-washy on Election.
I thought some parts were funny, but overall it freaked me out and kind of made me nauseas, mostly due to Matthew Broderick's character. Bookmarked to watch the video later.

7. It's a film with no heroes. If you expect to like Broderick's character I can see your point
The real reason Broderick doesn't want Tracy to win is that he doesn't want to work closely with her because he's sexually attracted to her.

So he fixes an election because he can't keep his mind off sex with his students.

He's not supposed to be the good guy. The only good guys in the movie are the quarterback and his lesbian sister.

An interpretive observation: The title is probably a double-entendre reference to the Calvinist concept of the chosen people who are bound for heaven not matter what, who are called "the Elect." Tracy thinks she's the elect, but she isn't.

9. I could never figure out if he hates her because he wants to have sex with her...
...or he wants to have sex with he because he hates her.

Discuss!

10. He's afraid of her because he thinks she destroyed his best friend, but that
makes her the ultimate forbidden fruit.

I don't know which came first... probably the hate, since he doesn't seem to have paid her much mind before the stuff with his friend.

6. That is so funny - I just watched Election over the weekend and could not believe how
similar it was to this election!!

The lesbian sister reminded me of Edwards (not the lesbian part) just the way she was speaking out.

11. the lesbian sister is awesome!
The "Jennifer/Juniper" montage makes me feel as warm and happy as any scene I can think of.
