The first white male joke Obama told was kinda funny.
The second was unnecessary and uncomfortable.

1. Yea, he's barrel of laughs.
I'm stunned how easily he's allowing Hillary and Bill to get in his head.

He's a mess.

2. I laughed at that first one, it seemed off the cuff and natural...
the second comment was a little forced and made Edwards uncomfortable.

10. I'm reminded of how Bush reacts when his entitlement is challenged.
Makes me think Obama was one of those boys raised to think they are the precious prince who can do no wrong.

7. Here's the one I remember...
"And, I mean, I'm not entirely faulting the media because, look, race is a factor in our society. There's no doubt that in a race where you've got an African-American, and a woman... and John...

(LAUGHTER)

... there's no doubt that that has piqued interest, "

6. I'm glad I wasn't the only one this bothered.
I don't know that there were two "jokes"... I only remember the one, but I didn't think it was nearly as funny as the audience seemed to.

I guess I missed the first one, then. Maybe it didn't register cause it came off more as a joke than... I don't know... just not good.

15. you know, i was laughing at a lot of things in this debate--the way
hillary and barack were slugging it out, edwards saying this was supposed to be a debate with three people. i was very amused.

but when obama said the shit about having to to see clinton dance--i didn't find it amusing. i thought the question was fucked up to begin with--how was he supposed to respond to that stupid question? but his response fell totally flat with me. it was as if he was making light of perpetuating the stereotype. and if anyone else had said that (hillary or edwards) we would have been OUTRAGED. i admit i wasn't outraged--but i found it offensive.

as i did when he was talking about men and women voting for him, men and women voting for hillary, and "white men" for edwards.

i know race is an issue with a lot of people in this country--but i don't think it should be reduced to cheep shots by any of these candidates.

22. The quality I least like about Obama
He is so divisive. It appears its the only way he knows to score points or promote himself above others. He seems to do it all the time.

That won't work well at all in the WH.

Ironic that his pitch is all about unity. What was Bush's pitch ~ compassionate conservatism??

Smoke and mirrors.

29. Obama kept his cool dealing with a dumb and difficult question.
In short, the question was: "Do you agree that Bill Clinton was the first black President?"

Now, if Obama had said "No, because everyone knows that Bill Clinton is a white guy."

Everyone would be now saying that Obama has no sense of humor and he didn't "get" the question.

Obama is not the one who keeps bringing up race the whole time.

In the recent TV debates on MSNBC and CNN, Obama has faced a mountain of race-based questions.

It's almost like someone wants to put Obama in a box as "the black candidate". :eyes:

The South Carolina debate was special because it was on MLK day, sponsored by the Congressional Black Caucus, and with a lot of black people in the audience. It looked to me like a lot of the AA voters in the audience enjoyed Obama's joke. So if they thought it was funny, that's good enough for me.

It's obvious that Obama was playing with the stereotype. But at the same time - why should he pretend that black people and white people are exactly the same. Why can't we be different but equal?

The thing about dancing was not supposed to be taken seriously. I mean - sheesh!! B-)
