The State Scorecard: Edwards grades highest in debate
http://www.thestate.com/nation/story/292683.html

JOHN EDWARDS

Former U.S. senator from North Carolina

Best moments: Edwards’ best moments were when he intervened during the Clinton and Obama exchanges. Edwards picked his spots to score points at the expense of both.

A memorable moment for Edwards was when he interrupted a testy exchange between Clinton and Obama by saying, “I also want to know, on behalf of voters here in South Carolina, this kind of squabbling, how many children is this going to get health care?”

The question stopped the Clinton-Obama arguing temporarily and made Edwards look like the adult between two bickering children.

The S.C. native was at his passionate best when he talked about the subprime mortgage crisis. His answer was tailored to South Carolina, where the problem is especially bad.

Do-over moment: Edwards, who spoke the least, avoided mistakes. During the debate’s calmer, sit-down moments, the audience groaned when he went into attack mode.

Grade: A-
