It Appears That John Edwards Might Upset Hillary & Place 2nd In S. Carolina.
Edited on Wed Jan-23-08 09:13 PM by David Zephyr
That will be a big story and will be the talk of every talk show on Sunday.

How bad of a loss would a third place finish be for Hillary?

Why would so many South Carolinians change their minds and support away from her?

Did she leave South Carolina because her campaign already saw it coming?

3. Where are you getting your information?
I would love for Edwards to come in second (or first), but have you seen any polls showing this?

36. Nothing to worry about for the Clinton machine...
... they'll just spin it as a victory, for not having been defeated by an even larger margin.

I mean, heck, Hillary didn't even campaign in SC the last couple of days; her meek, introvert husband was left to ramble around the state in search of coverage. He was lucky to get any coverage at all, golly wiz.

37. Alas, I don't think a third place finish will make any difference

The Clintons are going to successfully downplay SC as being a "black primary". They won't use those words, but they've already been doing it. She's going to be the big winner on Feb 5th. She'll win by large margins in CA, CT, NJ, MA, AZ, AK, MN and NM. Obama will win IL, HI and perhaps GA and AL. He has a chance in TN and a couple of other states. If he can keep it close that will be great, but I have my doubts about that.

6. Edwards is the only Dem contender left who could win. I hope he gets the nom....
...because nominating either Obama or Hillary = "President Huckabee".

26. Who Owns The Polls?
and the "Media" in general?

I swear a majority of people would vote for a ne'er do well drug addled
chicken-hawk if poll numbers, name recognition and favorable coverage told them
candidate "X" was the best person to be President.

Oh wait, they did that didn't they.
How gullible.

35. The OP wasn't about voting for Edwards.
It was asserting that "it appears" that he's going to take second. If there's evidence that that's going to happen, I'd like to check it out.

11. The debate was a fantastic
boon for him, Letterman last night, Olberman tonight - the more people see of him, the more they like him. Memories are short, we really didn't see that much of him in 03/04 - once Kerry was deemed the winner, Edwards was pushed back.

24. I got to witness John campaigning solo as VP candidate several times, of course this was on C-SPAN
No matter which rally C-SPAN covered, JFK & JRE, JFK, JRE, together alone, there were massive crowds. It was a sight to behold. Americans wanted CHANGE, instead we got more "Election Fraud" and the Bush Regime/Cartel/Cabal.

C-SPAN is a great source for getting to SEE candidates on the campaign trail.

It usually inspires me that we have good candidates, but I worry about the level of mudslinging and turn of events and how that could really hurt the party in the long run.

I'm not talking about our party uniting behind our nominee. I'm talking about ALL the dirt the other side will have against us.

Is exposing our candidates flaws serving anyone remotely sane???

Who really gets to benefit by this behavior???

Why GIVE the other side ammo to use against us if either one of the the mudslingers wins the nomination???

Isn't this a lot more damaging to have to tolerate "OUR" candidates conducting themselves as combative to one another???

To Hillary: What do you hope to accomplish by misrepresenting facts?

To Obama: You claim you want to bring rethuglicons, independents, and the Reagan democrats into your campaign.
Yet, Why are you attacking your Democratic opponents???

To Everyone: Why AREN'T you going after the repiglicons????

AFTER ALL THEY GOT US INTO THIS MESS... AND THAT'S WHERE THE SCANDALS ARE.....

if he came in 1st in some future primaries. He made himself stand out as an alternative while Obama and Clinton were bickering.

28. what are you basing this on?
Last poll I saw had Edwards at 15%.

It's far more likely that he'll do a repeat of Nevada. People will decide to cast their vote for one of the two frontrunners rather than waste it on someone who doesn't have a chance.

33. yes, that's true
but I've been surprised at how poorly he is doing there, being a "favorite son" and all. I think there does come a point where people decide that you aren't a viable candidate anymore - and Edwards is very close to that point.
