supporters are not really Democrats. By that I mean, they don't care about the party because they are not or have not previously identified as a Dem.

Most of the Obama supporters I meet self-describe as progressives. When I ask them the difference between liberals and progressives they say that liberals are old Democrats (and represent failure) and progressives are independent and looking for a new way.

what we're doing seems to be working pretty well, considering we were never given a chance to win any primaries when this all started.

i don't recall Obama ever saying we need to love everybody, so maybe you're the one who doesn't understand his message.
