John Kerry: McCain Approached Me About Joining Dem Ticket in 2004 |
|
Remember this? http://mydd.com/story/2007/4/3/11936/97033Then the denial: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/03/10/politics/main605167.shtmlMcCain has a lot of appeal to a big cross-section of people. He will be tough to beat no matter who the Democratic nominee is. His biggest problem in November will be to get "the base" i.e. the 30% to the polls to vote for him. The base will be inclined to stay home for McCain. Still, he will be a tough opponent.

2. Five words which should sink McCain |
|
"Voting was along party lines."
Everything that Bush wanted, McCain gave him. Everything that Bush opposed, McCain let die.
McCain being a change? Don't make me laugh ...

3. The denial came 3 years AFTER Kerry's comment |
|
This has been covered extensively on DU. The 2004 sources of the McCain possibility were from Biden, who genuinely thought it was a good idea and who floated it when he ran as well (on Imus) and people near McCain. Kerry had said nothing in 2004 - as he had said he would say nothing. The Kerry comment here spoke of the fact that the idea was played with at a much earlier time after Jeffords switched and there was talk of McCain becoming independent and caucusing with the Democrats as well. This was also pre-Iraq.
