Hillary's eMed Records Plan Endangers Military Family Vote: CHSC II |

2. Refine Search from There... |
|
... the search results start with CHCS II, with enough keywords to give returns that highlight the significant breaches that have occurred.

4. No! You know the source and should provide a direct link or links. |
|
Have the courtesy for others that don't have time to check out links that may not apply to your intent and provide direct links that do. There should be no need for DU's repeating what others have already done when they can reduce unnecessary research.

6. As the spouse of a military member I can assure you the OP is right. |
|
When I heard it being discussed I cringed. It's a horrible mess and before anyone decides to do it, they better look at the flaws in the way it's being done now.

Is your spouse OK? Do you belong to NMFA?
I have a very close friend who helped with the CHCS II implementation, and the horror stories you don't know about would curl your nosehairs.

10. He's ok, but still can't get any response on disability even though |
|
he has a 70% hearing loss in one ear and 30% in the other after returning from Iraq. Not a record issue, but still very frustrating.
I would probably believe every horror story you told me. We are still part of the systems as retirees.
No, we're not in NMFA. We probably should be.
Thanks for bringing up this issue, Dave. It is something to really be considered before we just jump right into this.

Depending on the answer, I can point you to some GREAT groups that can help advocate on his behalf.
The founder of the company who runs one of the helplines for the families is a former client.

8. As a doctor I hate the idea of eMed records. I don't mind input on a Tablet PC but |
|
I want a chart to sign off on at the end. I want to see a hard copy that has my signature.... To much at stake for patient and medico-legally...

12. I don't know anything about the eMed records of service members, |
|
but I can tell you I've had personal experience with eMed records in 2 cities in the US, and they work GREAT! I was hospitalized in Pgh., Pa. during which time they did more different tests than I care to count or remember. One and one half years later, we moved to North Ga. When I was again hospitalized here, the Dr's wanted to do tests again, but also wanted the previous test results to use as a base line. I told them the name of the Pgh. hosp. and they had all their info in less than 15 mins.
My husband & I have both had experiences with information exchange that have been every bit as positive. Both of the hosp. systems we have dealt with are quite large, and I honestly don't see the downside.

16. There Are Some Good eMed Vendors... |
|
... for sure.
But the disastrous implementation in the armed services (due to the selection of shoddy vendors) will likely have those families (which are concentrated heavily in key swing states) to have a very different reaction from yours, when they hear a candidate embracing this concept.

23. eMed records in the military have been a fiasco. |
|
There are bright spots here and there, and - most importantly - it has probably saved some lives or mitigated some harm.
But, the experience of most military families with TriCare and CHCS II has been unfavorable, to put it mildly.

15. We really do need a GOOD medical records system in the country. |
|
Hillary is suggesting a computerized system that helps patients and administrators. Surely we have the enough talent to iron out the ethical kinks in a soundly developed system. Some vet can't even fill out all that hellish paperwork because of their disabilities. And being able to receive medicare with good and accurate information helps everyone. If Obama had suggest this would you not call him a "visonary?"

19. The benefits of electronic medical records far outweigh software glitches by 10,000 percent |
|
Both on a personal level and a professional level, I could spend the rest of the new month writing about the benefits.
But one point (among hunderds) I would like to make: that day, my husband's doctor 125 miles away can view the results of PET scans and CT scans critical to planning. It has moved procedures against aggressive cancers up by perhaps two weeks - a huge benefit in a person's war for their lives. By attacking progressive diseases more rapidly electronic medical records can save billions in health care costs.
Hillary's E-med is saving lives. I cannot tell you how important this is to the families of cancer victims.

The point is, there are literally millions of military family members who've been adversely affected by a botched implementation ***outside*** of the private sector successes.

21. Electronic Records Make Waste of Human Talent and Knowledge |
|
Edited on Sat Feb-02-08 10:35 AM by Crisco
My best friend was the head of one of the Northeast VA programs and had to fight to get disability herself; with six years of college education, degree in social work, 13 years of experience, she couldn't continue to do her job because of carpal tunnel syndrome.
Half of her day was spent on on a freaking computer and eventually she had to stop working in her chosen field because VA couldn't or wouldn't pay for an assistant and couldn't or wouldn't spend for necessary ergonomics.
