Look, folks: GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER
My man, Edwards, just exited stage left. Well, that's the way the cookie crumbles.

We still have to get a Democrat in the White House this coming January. Frankly, I really don't care who it is at this point, just as long as we get one in there.

And these petty pissing contests are really getting tiresome. If you really want me to say that candidate X shouldn't get the nom, SHOW ME SOMETHING INDICTABLE!!! Otherwise, I really don't give a rat's ass what shady character was shown shaking hands with some other candidate.

These people are POLITICIANS, not SAINTS! I expect them to do that kind of stuff. How else do you expect them to move up the food chain?

Unless we have totally publicly funded campaigns and free time set aside for TV ads in America, don't expect anything different from what we got.

Please grow up!

You are now free to ignite your flamethrowers.

Thank you.

2. You almost had me on your side until the "please grow up"
Edited on Fri Feb-01-08 12:56 AM by Dr Fate
Equating an aversion to corruption with childishness is where you lost me.

I hear "please grow up" or a variation of it on this board whenever someone wants to fight Bush or change something.

27. regarding the image on your sig line
I had the same problem when I had a freeserver blog/site going. To link/display the images I want to put in other sites, I use photobucket (photobucket.com) - it's free, easy to use

4. Believe me, saracat, I understand. But barring some miracle
where JRE jumps back in and beats Clinton and Obama hands down, I will vote for whichever one of them gets the nomination, because the absolute WORST thing to me would be to have another 4-8 years of Rethuglican rule. I just could not deal with it.

7. Ah, well, except for getting John some delegates Super Tuesday,,
And helping my husbands local election, I am out of the picture. It is oddly freeing.I don't care who wins! One candidate maybe slightly better than another but not enough to pique my interest.

At least at the local level, even after your husband wins. What is he running for?

5. Oh, I agree that the choices could be better
No doubt about it

But compensating and compromising is the name of the game right now.

But let's not lose sight of the big picture, shall we?

10. Unfortunately, I have concluded I have nothing to do with the "big picture"
and as I believe there is no change of consequence apparent, there is nothing to lose sight of."the more things change ....eh? Except from the choices we have been given, no chnge will occur. So it is all moot.

12. Unlike others, I don't understand ...

What is a "real Democrat"? Really?

Is it what an individual says it is? Is it what some subset of DU says it is? If this nonsense devolves into that bullshit argument that tagged Gore in 2000, to wit that no difference exists between the parties or their candidates, I'm simply going to start running around in random patterns, screaming at the sky. Gore, the "savior" of the Democratic party as some have called him. He too was lesser of two evils at one point, but people seem determined to forget that, thinking it's all unique now. It's not. Never has been. This is how politics works. If we're going to be political junkies, and no people who think this is a football game, we'd do well to understand that and go with it.

Realistically, we have two choices right now. Both of them score low on conservative think tank lists. Both rank high on liberal think tank lists. Neither are perfect on my own list. Neither was Edwards. Big deal. The day I see a perfect, by my definition, candidate is the day I start looking for icicles in Hell.

:kick:

The juvenile fan-boy-ism is appalling, not surprising, but appalling just the same.

Edwards was my choice too. Now my vote goes to someone else. Pretty simple actually.

14. Hsu, Trie, Chung, Huang
Chatwal, Burkle, now Giustra. How many entanglements to the Clintons have to have with crooks before you call them a crook too?

I swear I can't understand why anybody who has been paying attention supports them. How scummy does someone have to be before they're rejected in this country? We're no better than the people who continue to support Tom Delay.

But let mom n pop American bounce a check, and that's the end of the world and lord knows they can't be trusted to have a job or buy a house and certainly not run for office.

That's what is fucked up in this country. We have a choice between integrity and known slime, and there are people who are willfully picking known slime. It's crazy.

on the Clintons we would know it. Why would a dem. attack a former dem. pres. He was the best we've had since JFK and you attack him. Sick.

25. The list grows and grows
Just because somebody walks right up to the edge of what's legal, doesn't mean they aren't unethical. And I wouldn't call China trade, deregulation, ending "the era of big government", misinforming people on the FICA surplus, trading forest land for ski resorts, and laying the groundwork for the Iraq invasion "the best" we've had since JFK. Jimmy Carter was 100 times the President Clinton was and if we'd listened to him, we wouldn't have any of the problems we have now including 9/11 because he never would have armed bin laden to fight the Soviet Union.

22. You and I can afford to take positions to the far left of most Dem pols
We have nothing to lose.

The pols, on the other hand, have to compromise and compensate to get results.

When they get out hand, it's our job to rabble rouse.

They play their games and we play ours

28. regardless of who gets the big chair in the white house
there's a HUGH!!! mess to clean up.

This election is significant in more than one way - it's not only the first time in I don't know how many years where we don't have a sitting President or Vice-President campaigning for the job, it's also the first time two members of a minority group are real contenders and it's NOT just a single issue campaign

we have SERIES!!11!! problems on the domestic and foreign fronts.

Whoever gets the big chair won't have the luxury of a honeymoon or growing into the job - they have to hit the ground running.

whoever he or she is. Neither one will turn from the direction this disastrous presidency has set us on quickly enough to suit me, but either one will begin the extremely difficult task of righting (make that lefting) our course.
