The biggest knockout punch in the debate tonight was by Hillary.... |
|
....when she knocked herself out on the IWR question.
Wolf gave her a great lead in, giving her a chance to show some humility and admit a mistake.... and she landed a right hook....
...to her own chin.
That 10-minute sequence during the debate is the dominant narrative on all three cable networks tonight... and it will dominate the morning news cycle (Today Show, etc).... until the middle of the day...
When Obama gets a big endorsement from Bill Richardson.
Tonight's debate result is that Obama has now won 5 of the past 6 news cycles. There's only a few more left before Tuesday.
Hillary needs to win a news cycle badly....

10. Hillary Icon tells me you are a 67 year old woman with no college degree |
|
And you drink Miller Lite or Bud Lite but I can't tell if it's because of the great taste or because it's less filling. :)
Sorry, I couldn't resist the temptation. Since we are attempting to stereotype and all.

5. Hillary was doing great tonight until that moment |
|
She really dive bombed in the last hour. Really bad on the Iraq question.
But overall, I liked her in the debate.

14. I totally agree with you bridgit. It was a brilliant debate, handled deftly by both candidates. |
|
Hillary might have mentioned that there were people in the WH and other agencies LYING to her and other congress people. You base your judgement on true facts and she said it fine for me. Her whole presentation was just so impressive. Obama was no less interesting and expressive in the debate.
Remember, John Edwards admitted he was wrong about his vote, but it didn't help him. Edwards was an interesting choice and might have made a great vice-president in the last election. But that combo lost and it was a shame.
Now, he has a wife who is dying of cancer and three children to raise. What would happen to the older daughter? Would she have to be the caretaker of her two younger siblings?
No matter how I sliced and diced it, I couldn't see a man yearning and striving to be president with a terminally ill spouse. My husband lost his first wife at age 34 from cancer. He was left with three children nearing puberty, and for almost a year he could not think straight at all about much except his job. But President of the United States? I don't think so.
I wish both John and Elizabeth Edwards the best in this world. I hope they have a wonderful time with the remaining months or years that they have together.
Thanks for your post.

Watching shills try to spin what we all saw is sort of amusing, but sad. Anyone who uses the term "knockout punch" or "home run" to describe tonight's love fest either wasn't watching or can't understand what they did see. They were effective, cordial, and on message. There's a reason you use surrogates to ply negative campaigns. Blowback. Both are smart and know that.
Meanwhile the Pubs have to get out their 4 inch pocket rulers and measure penises when they debate. Romney and McCain getting tough with each other was like something out of a bad 1950s school movie. Rumble at Reagan High, starring Nancy Davis, the ghost of Ronald Reagan, with John McCain as Fisty, and introducing newcomer Mittens Romney as The Beaver.

19. I think that's right, having come this far he had a calmer state about him that played very well... |
|
Maybe they decided to play nice, and I think they both did by & large, but it seemed to me Obama had an 'easy absorption rate', if you will
Oh yeah, and I've had it with Blitzer, wanna maybe kick him in the chins

22. Blitzer was definitely pugnacious -- it was all in the phrasing of some of his questions. |
|
But all in all, it was a fascinating moment in history.
The first black man -- of mixed race -- and the first woman who happens to be white, female, a Senator and a former First Lady.
It's truly astounding.

21. Welcome to the DU, TexasObserver! Glad to meet you and I share your views. |

Thanks for posting.
It's still a long way to to November 2008 -- and I am hopeful and optimistic at this point.
When is the Texas primary?
I'm in Oregon where we vote in May 2008 -- all by punchcard via the mail. Ho-hum.

March 4th.
OR-E-GON was home to my dear old aunt who passed away a year ago. She was a lifelong Democrat and I emailed her monthly about such. My mother and I practically made her get email to keep her in the loop. She is missed this year.

25. Oh dear. That's the day my mother passed away, widowed and alone in Florida. |
|
Sorry to hear about your aunt. I've befriended my aunt, Mothers younger sister, now age 84. She lives in San Rafael, California. She's on the Internet with a vengeance and we also talk on the telephone frequently. Now that her 90 year old psychiatrist husband has passed away, our relationship has grown even closer.
Aunt M. is a former teacher and English professor whose career includes affiliation at a Los Angeles high school and then at Maui Community College for many years in Hawaii. Her only daughter is a schizophrenic woman who never married and has no children.
We try to get to see her as frequently as possible. She's coming to visit us in August. We took her to Oahu a couple of years ago, but she tells us she is too frail to make that trip anymore. Last weekend, she said, "My days at the beach are over." Her skin responds poorly to sunlight, and she can't even swim in pools anymore.
Life is a series of losses, sadly. My husband is almost 74, and I will be 69 in May. We are lucky to be quite healthy and each of us worked for 50 plus years and then retired.
Have a good day in Texas!
