Are we witnessing the destruction of the Republic party?
With McCain getting the nomination despite not having the backing of the Establishment/insane Freeper crowd/usual conservative pundits, are we looking at the most favorable Democratic climate come November in decades? Might we see their own Ralph Nader rise up and take votes from them come November?

I'm seriously rolling laughing when I browse through some of the posts on FR. They've been on suicide watch for years now, I think they're about to pull the trigger.

1. Just until 2010.....
...after McCain gets trounced in the GE... the GOP will recalibrate.

The Republican and Democratic parties have been doing it for decades.

Lose elections... especially in a big way... and the party refocuses its message.

The Dems won in 2006 because they finally grew a spine after 6 years of letting Rovian politics run over them.

We're not heading for "one party rule" anytime soon. ;-)

7. Actually, they had been running over us since Grinrich. in 93.
Bill held the line somewhat. But they still got some of what they wanted
and kept the country from getting what it needed.

2. They are sharpening their knives....
...and I doubt most of the voting machines have paper trails.

3. And, maybe we should notice the Repugs are taking over the Democratic Party--???
The business party is now largely residing in the Democratic Party ---
How much more of it did they buy in January --- ???

5. As we know it.
They are done for a while. They will have to reinvent themselves. And then they will be back.

For now we can enjoy our turn at the helm. I think that come January 09 we are likely to have
control of both houses of Congress and the Presidency.

I hope we use the power wisely and well. If so, we can be there for a long time.

6. Absolutely not...
They're like cockroaches, scattering because a light has been turned on.

But they're resilient and numerous. They will be back.

8. Apparently, though that cockroach theory has merit.

Republican Party In Decline

"Public allegiance to the Republican Party has plunged since the second year of George W. Bush's presidency, as attitudes have edged away from some of the conservative values that fueled GOP political dominance for more than a decade," according to a new Pew Research Center survey.

The survey found a "dramatic shift" in political party identification since 2002, "when Republicans and Democrats were at rough parity. Now, half of those surveyed identified with or leaned toward Democrats, while only 35% aligned with Republicans."

"What's more, the survey found the public attitudes are drifting toward Democrats' values: Support for government aid to the disadvantaged has grown since the mid-1990s, skepticism about the use of military force has increased and support for traditional family values has edged down."

9. The neoconservatives have now taken over the Republican party....
...leaving the fiscals and the socials out in the fuckin' cold. Charles "Bond Villain" Krautheimer was openly taunting Rush Limbaugh on Fox News the other day. Our party may be split in two right now. But THEIR party is totally and irrevocably fucked up the butt.

10. Republican foreign policy and economics have both
been totally discredited, smashed to pieces. I expect them to regroup with a different philosophy, possibly even a more centrist approach. The fundy wing of their party is still powerful, though, so they are going to pose a problem if the party wants to evolve. (haha "evolve", get it?)
