"I believe in coersive diplomacy" HRC
I'm shocked no one is talking about this stunning line by Senator Clinton.

1. That sounds like a bu$h line.
An example would be Iraq.

2. The Donkey makes a good point
She did make that statement last night and it left me hanging. She needed to be very specific with this statement. The US has used coersion for many years and every president has applied it for one reason or another. The typical use of coersion is economic with things like embargo's. This is why she needed to go further and explain that statement. The candidates did a great job last night but they were not specific enough on any topic. I wanted to hear specifics on how they would implement there plans.

Coercive diplomacy.

Works for me...especially if I'm the hostage.

4. If the field of diplomacy, ALL levers must be used...
Sticks, carrots, relationships, etc.

Yes, even coercive diplomacy has it's time and place. If Carter had used it, we wouldn't have had 8 years of Ronald Reagan.

5. Oh. No. You. Didn't.
Don't you dare pin the Reagan blight on "Carter was a wimp."

Bullshit.

8. Will she apply "coercive diplomacy" to Iran?
And will we end up going to war with them? (A war, of course, that she will never call a war...)

Scary.

9. Much of diplomacy IS coercive -- and it always has been
Deals, compromises, sanctions (some do work, Iraq's was done very badly), trade deals, etc.

I don't want it to be done via the barrel of a gun, and before everyone starts screaming, "Hawk!".... HRC is sometimes Hawkish but isn't a Hawk... just like the other two Dem frontrunners.
