Illinois folks and New York folks:
If either or both Sens. Obama & Clinton wind up on our ticket, and we go on to win in November, who might your states' Democratic governors appoint to replace them?

Are your states governer-will-appoint states or are special elections held?

I could google this but thought I'd ask at the source.

Who might be in contention as possible replacements?

2. I wasn't sure if he had or not, Cooley Hurd. Appreciate the
update. I wonder if Gov. Spitzer would appoint him?

3. "Oh so that's why he endorsed Hillary for President"
So it turns out there might be something in it for him.

I'll bet that's what many of us are thinking.

I'm not saying there aren't also good reasons for people to support Hillary. But if someone has a personal (selfish) motive, then it might help them to make their choice.

11. If people think that,
they are wrong. Robert is endorsing Senator Clinton because of her strong record on environmental issues.

20. A sad conclusion to RFK's legacy, I call it. History rewritten as parody.

Just because they share a name does NOT mean that the Clinton machine of
wealthy corporate Democrats, and RFK Jr.'s allying himself to it, shares
Bobby Kennedy's legacy.

These are folks who stand for everything the Republicans stood for in the
1960s and want to force out Dems who fail to do the same.

10. Should Senator Clinton
become President, it is most likely that RFK, Jr., will become US Senator.

17. Bobby Kennedy was our Senator when I was born...
My Dad campaigned for him in '64. I will certainly honor my father AND RFK Jr's father by doing the same for him.

21. BINGO...
That would be a logical choice and one I supect that Senator Clinton would lobby for. It would also be an extremely popular choice AND it would be a magnificent choice for all of America.

In my opinion this is one of the great hidden upsides to nominating and electing Hillary Clinton President. Not reason enough by itself to support her certainly, but a good one.

Can you imagine having RFK Jr. joining Russ Feingold, Barbara Boxer, and Bernie Sanders in the Senate?!?

4. Illinois' governor?
Maybe Lisa Madigan, our Attorney General...just to get her out of the way if she decides to run against Blagojevich in the primary in 2010.

She's been a fantastic Attorney General, imo, and I would applaud that selection.

5. I hear her name many times a month in the Chicago-area media, so
I have the sense that she must have a pretty good base there in Illinois.

7. Personally, I'm not sure.
I keep thinking that there's an excellent chance Blagojevich could be under indictment before 2010. Let's just say I wouldn't be all that surprised.

15. I wonder what influences Spitzer. He's been his own man on so many
things, but a lot of voices must weigh in on a Senate appointment.

This could get good.

12. Illinois
Attorney General Lisa Madigan: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisa_Madigan

State Comptroller Dan Hynes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Hynes

Both would make great Senators.

Another guy who would do very in the Senate seat come four-six years:

State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexi_Giannoulias

That's just the tip of the iceberg though. We have several Congressmen, state senators, state reps, and other elected officials that would fit the bill. Our bench is very very deep.
