Obam is running a very smart campaign
He got the MSM to cover this press conference dangling the specter of an endorsement from Edwards. Brilliant!

7. The PRESS controls the news cycle
Obama is still behind by a few points; the kid-glove treatment ends the first time his polling goes above Hillary's.

They don't much care as long as they can drive the polls as close to 50/50 for as long as possible. This is about money -- getting viewers and selling ads.

5. .
I've been very impressed with the skills of Obama/Axelrod/etc. Very impressed.

A few huge mistakes IMO though. The choice to go negative after New Hampshire. Really everyone already distrusts Hillary by instinct. Obama gained nothing by chasing this angle, and diminished his 'above politics' image. He needed to just stay above it in debates and smile a lot. He did that last night and I was glad.

The biggest 'mistake' though, and one that is overlooked. They really really under-use Michelle Obama, and especially Sasha and Malia. If you looked at the debate last night, they kept panning to Chelsea, and it humanizes Hillary.

Sasha and Malia are too adorable. Most Americans have never seen them. The image of that family would sway a lot of votes. A lot. Anyone who saw the little girls near the stage after the Iowa speech were mesmerized by the image of that family. But Joe Average has never seen the girls.

I think it's possible Obama is 'decent' enough of a pol to not want to exploit his children though. Given how cynical I am of politicians (not Obama, ALL), that's saying a lot if true.

It might cost him the presidency.
