Poll: Al Franken Ahead In Minnesota Senate Race
We're taking a step back from our focus on presidential race coverage to bring this piece of news: For the first time ever, Al Franken is ahead of Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN) in an opinion poll.

The survey conducted by the University of Minnesota puts Franken at 43% to Coleman's 40%, hardly a good sign for the incumbent. Previous polls all gave Coleman the lead, initially a wide one when Franken declared, but eventually a much narrower one.

10. Bill O'Lielly will NEVER say Senator Franken. He'll just add his
name to a long list of people who shall not be named on his cheesy little hate fest each day.

I wish there would be a group effort to call his show each and every day, call after call, and when you finally get on the air just say Keith Olbermann rocks! O'Lielly's masturbation of his ego each day in his little echo chamber would implode. Of course, they have a delay so it probably wouldn't get on the air but just imagine all of the sudden dead air spaces on program after program. I would bet good money that O'Lielly's head would explode after just a day or two. And, yes, I'd take on Faux Nitwits security with one hand tied behind my back.

17. Whoo Hoo!
I asked Al in 2006 if he was going to run for the Senate, he said that he might. Then I moved to the UK the next day.

I'm really looking forward to Al trouncing Norm Coleman!

21. He is not alone in going for the DFL endorsement
He's also up against Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer, a college professor who has a lot of support among the peace and justice contingent, and also Mike Ciresi, a prominent lawyer who is best known for winning MN's multi-billion dollar settlement against big tobacco.

All three of them are fine candidates, and could trounce Norman in the general election. I'm leaning more toward Nelson-Pallmeyer because of his stance on health care and the Iraq war. However, Franken is my strong second choice.
