I'm warming up to Candidate Clinton more and more...
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=051129223726.dqn74ka0&show_article=1

Backed by gruesome shots of computerised cannibalism, police beatings and violence, campaigners warned parents that their children were increasingly at risk from "sadistic" video games.

Senator Hillary Clinton and former vice presidential nominee Joseph Lieberman meanwhile launched new legislation intended to protect kids from graphic, violent and sexual material on their game consoles.

The National Institute on Media and the Family said in its annual report that video game retailors had failed to honor promises to safeguard children from violent and sexual content in new generation video games.

"There has been significant industry progress and reforms over the last decade, but ever more violent and sadistic games are still ending up in the hands of children," said the institute's president David Walsh.

Walsh called gave the video game industry a grade of "D+" over the last decade as regards protecting children, and called on retailers to embrace an independent ratings system for games.

"Retailers would rather appear as if they care about children instead of actually small steps to protect them," said Walsh.

Having played some of the modern games, they do go too far.

My only regret that the L-word was used in the article too.

Parents should take concern, but most of them are too busy working and letting video games be surrogate parents.

Of course, if there are other reasons why today's children seem to... vicious, let me know. (a coworker, 3 years my junior, who has children, has noted the same things...)

1. Hillary 08!
Violence in the media translates to violence in City streets. Even Chicago streets!

2. I DON'T like her healthcare proposal ...
How can you force people to get health care?
Some people don't want it.
Some people can't afford it(not matter how "cheap" it might be).
I understand on Hillary's plan, if you don't pay for health coverage, you are penalized.
THAT IS OUTRAGEOUS!
This makes no sense ...
If you don't get the mandated healthcare, then you still have to PAY A PENALTY for not getting it???
Ridiculous!!

At least with Obama, YOU HAVE A CHOICE!

5. Probably the opposite effect you intended..
But I forgot about her role in that whole debacle. Thanks for reminding me of another reason why I'm seriously angry at the prospect of her as our candidate.

Video games can be violent. Movies can be violent. It's a parent's job to filter out what is and is not appropriate. Not the senat. Not Joe Lieberman. Not Hillary Clinton. Parents.

My parents did this (even though they were very busy). I do this with my kids (even though my wife and I are very busy). If need be, as a parent err on the side of "No you can't have that because I don't know enough about it." Don't just buy them the game and then when you find out it's violent chalk it up to "Oh, I didn't have time to check that out." If parents do this not only will they protect their kids from possibly objectionable material they'll also teach them patience and that they can't always get instant gratification and immediatly have everything they want.

6. As long as the sadistic games are fun, kids will want to play them

I'm glad two Senators who recklessly helped start a war that's killed about a million people, refugeed millions, and maimed countless more, is concerned about video game violence.

8. I don't think there is enough censoring on children's games or
for that matter TV cartoons. I see nothing wrong with not allowing disgusting products slanted at children off the shelves or off TV during hours that they are most likely to watch. Parents as a whole are not 'watching over' their children constantly. Many can't because both parents work. Some just don't care. Some parents drop kids off at the mall and they wind up playing video games. The parents certainly don't know what they are playing.

10. Sure they are.
That's what this all boils down too.

The government has no business getting involved in this shit.

9. Odd this has the opposite effect on me
I guess we all have our own views of the world.

I prefer the idea that parents need to take greater responsibility in their children's lives and if they don't have the time to do it then maybe we should censor them from having children.
