CT Rep. Rosa DeLauro To Endorse Obama Tomorrow!

by dansac
Fri Feb 01, 2008 at 10:46:26 AM PST
There have been some comments on other diaries about this, but just wanted to follow-up with some more. Via the Huffington Post, Connecticut Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro is going to endorse Barack Obama.

This is makes three CT Democrats, and leaves room for the big remaining one, Chris Dodd, to throw his support. Not much time, Chris, let's get to it!

dansac's diary :: ::
Marc Ambinder speculates on whether Dodd will endorse:

Dodd advisers assume, but do not know, that Sen. Obama will get the honors.

A Dodd endorsement could swing Connecticut Obama's way. He's already received the endorsement of the two other Democratic members of the House.
And what difference to this make? Well, not all endorsements matter, but (according to Sam Stein):

DeLauro is a beloved figure in New Haven and has been a staunch opponent of the Iraq war. Her latest legislative initiative would restrict the president's hand in negotiating a long-term military presence in Iraq without Congress' approval. It may sound familiar: Hillary Clinton has pushed a very similar bill in the Senate, which she has mentioned in recent debates.
And let's not forget what's been happening in the CT polls lately:

- On January 20th, according to U of CT, Clinton led Obama 41% to 27%. - On January 29th, Rasmussen had the race tied at 40% each - On Feb 1, SUSA has Obama leading 48% to 40%

Who knows how accurate these are, but the trends are clear. A Dodd endorsement would be huge, and potentially put CT in the win column, taking a dent out of Hillary's northeast armot.

By the way, does anyone else with Super Tuesday were another week away? I feel like the more people see of Obama the more they like him and I wish he had more time to visit all these states and make the case in person. These endorsements are great, but the impact may be muted because of lack of time...I hope not.

UPDATE: Sadly Geekesque points out that Dodd won't endorse

5. It doesn't bother me....
not in the way you think...I just think it's kind of.....pathetic and sad. The statement I see is, that you all need more endorsments to validate your candidate, thus your choice is validated.

6. well, would you agree that its better to post positive news about ones candidate then
negative ones about an opponent?

Personally i see the positive posts as quite nice as its one less post thats an attack or smear against one of two great candidates

Meaningless to you perhaps, but part of the news about the primaries.

13. not at all meaningless
She's well respected in CT and she's a SD. CT is now a very competitive state and something like this endorsement helps Obama there. I realize you don't like this news, but frankly, I don't give a damn.

9. Someone on MSNBC reported Obama is up by 4 pts. in Connecticut
in a poll done within the last couple of hours. That's amazing given the proximity to New York.

12. GOROSA!!!
I love Rosa!! When I lived in her district I had many contacts with her. I remember the first time she ran, She stood outside a Stop and Shop in Hamden collecting signatures to get on the ballot in the Primary. She has since helped me out of a few problems, ie Soc. Sec. and getting my daughter home from the Army (long story). I'm so proud that she is endorsing him. You realize she is an avid supporter for womans rights??? I almost expected her to go with Hillary!! Thank God she went with her head instead of her heart!! Hell, maybe Obama's got them both, 'cause he sure is the most Charismatic politician I've seen since JFK!! GOBAMA!!!:bounce:
