15. They ask it because race influences how people vote
Usually it helps shapes people's world view. It is no coincidence every minority group votes Democratic. What we are seeing in the Democratic primary, especially in the South, is very obviously voting on racial lines. There isn't much of a policy difference between Hillary and Obama. It is no accident both hold absurdly large leads with folks of the same color as them.

22. 28% of the white vote in Alabama for a black man
isn't shabby at all. And Obama is doing very well among whites in states like CO. He did just fine in IA and NH, and not badly in NV among whites.

24. Well, I can tell you they didn't contact me or anyone I know and we are
all white and voting for Obama in AL. As usual Herman is spewing his crap again on the board as he has for more than a year now.

How are you, Cali? I don't post much anymore because I am very disillusioned with this place, but I'm still here.

12. Is Alabama an open primary? Be very wary of "open" primaries.
Edited on Fri Feb-01-08 08:13 PM by jasmine621

14. Let's chill out. Demographics matter, especially in the South
Hillary is up 65-28 with whites and Obama 72-23 with blacks. Are we to blindly pretend race isn't a very big factor in this?

8. How come when lots of white people vote for your candidate it is never seen as a liability?
Doesn't it make Hillary the "race" candidate that she's relying on all this parochial, special interest "white voter" support?

I think he's got it in the bag in any state where blacks make up a large proportion of the Democratic Party.

20. This is crappy for you to post. I'm from AL, and an HRC supporter, but still...
Edited on Fri Feb-01-08 09:59 PM by mentalsolstice
I live in Birmingham, AL. And our most recent local elections (the last 15 years or so) should be held up as civility without racism or race-baiting. The rest of the country could learn a lot about race relations from my community. I have seriously looked at my voting record recently, and I have elected more African Americans into office than Caucasians over my voting lifetime (and admired them as I did so). Those votes were for mayor, city council, county commission, local judges, state judges, state legislators, US Congress, etc. And I never really gave race a thought when I cast those votes, nor have most of the people I've talked to. The people I voted for...were simply the most qualified, and I would love to see many of them get into national politics.

Now I support HRC, as do a lot of the people I know (many of whom are black). My preference has nothing to do with race, it's all about the message. I hate it that polls divide us like this, with no other explanation. Black, white. As southerners, we get pigeoned-holed. And we're not like THAT.

25. I voted early on Wednesday
Because of Mardi Gras in Mobile and Baldwin county. It was a light turnout in these heavily Republican countys.
This old(55) independant redneck voted for Obama, and I know of at least 7 other old rednecks did the same. Its not about Race, its about change,a new direction for a new age. You'll see a lot of old Yellowdogs become Obamadogs because they feel he can heal what ails the country.
