McCain has cozied up to Bush and the religious right big time. Sure he has not always marched in lockstep, but he has never seriously challenged the right-wing establishment. His "maverick" stances tend to come when he either knows the GOP position will pass by a comfortable margin or when he knows it will fail by a wide margin. He is not ever going to do something like Lieberman did and bolt the party, he is a loyal right-wing Republican fascist through and through.
