Ironic that MoveOn was formed to encourage congress to "Move on" from impeachment
Edited on Fri Feb-01-08 09:20 PM by Politicub
and instead censure President Clinton in the late 90's*. Move on was chosen so that the congress could move on to working on more important business. That's when I signed up, donated money and have been a supporter since.

Tonight, with much regret, I left the group.

*Reference: From MoveOn's About page:

On September 18th 1998, they launched an online petition to "Censure President Clinton and Move On to Pressing Issues Facing the Nation." Within days they had hundreds of thousands of individuals signed up, and began looking for ways these voices could be heard.

1. Um, I don't think that's right.
As I understood it, the name is sardonic, coming from the right's insistence that we as a nation all move on from the 2000 election debacle.

Yes, it did start
because of the impeachment of President Clinton. Just some emails sent out and a movement started.

4. It was fantastic, too! I loved being part of it for all of these years
I just need to step away for a while.

6. Ok, but come back
when you feel you can. They have been there for us when no one else was there. Through the impeachment, the losing in '00 and '04, the 'nuclear option' and the judges. In the end we all have to fight this togehter.

3. Nope, I was an original member. That's what MoveOn morphed into
after the impeachment was over, but they did indeed start as a group to Censure President Clinton and "move on."

2. I signed up to Moveon...
When they were desperately trying to stop Bush from going to war in Iraq.

They made the right choice today.

9. Obama is a Bush enabler? Wow, that's a very uninformed statement coming from a Hillary supporter
In light of her voting record as it concerns going to war with iraq, the levin amendment and Kyl/Lieberman.

There was an open vote and Obama got the most.

The majority of Move On members chose Obama.

11. And what made me so damn mad about the vote they took is
they choose before they even sent out the voting email. I have personally emailed over 100 people in our group. They didn't get the vote email til late the night the vote date expired. We did not have a chance to make our voices heard. And I like you have been a member for over 10 years. Almost 16,000 of our senior groups across the US are too. But if the info in the emails I got from them is typical they and their friends and relatives are dropping out. I think this sucks. If the people in charge of Move on wanted to endorse someone they should have done so and said THEY WANTED TO. And not make people believe that the rank and file of moveone agreed.

12. how long did they have the poll running? If for a long time, it doesn't matter if they waited
on the e-mail. it was more just like a last minute reminder, people weren't dependent on it to know about the poll.
