Clearly Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are capable of putting aside their differences and being cordial to each other, highlighting their similarities as well as their differences. Last night showed me what it could be if Clinton and Obama joined forces to take our country back. It was a reminder that despite our differences, our common foe is the Republican party, and we must be ready to stand together to face them. A victory won't just be handed to us, we will have to fight hard for it, because you can be assured that they will try to cheat. Watching that debate, I felt the power of a unified front against these dirty cheaters, and it moved me. After seeing all that positive energy, coming back here and seeing more of the same nasty garbage that supporters of Clinton and Obama regularly fling at each other was kind of depressing. My respect for Hillary grew ENORMOUSLY last night, as did my respect for Obama. However, the nonstop sliming from both camps on DU really turns me off, and it might do the same to other uncommitted supporters of Edwards or Kucinich. Just a general plea: if you're going to post something, think about if it'll actually be a credit to the candidate you support. CHANCES ARE: If you're going to post a thread calling Hillary or Obama supporters 'stupid, immature, childish, deluded, brainwashed, cult members' etc...YOU'RE NOT DOING YOUR CANDIDATE ANY FAVORS. We can promote our own favorite candidate without resorting to broad brush attacks on every person who supports the candidate you oppose. CHANCES ARE: If you're going to post a thread distorting an event or quote, or outright lying, just to make the other candidate look bad, you're not doing your candidate any favors. It makes you look classless and dishonest, besides. CHANCES ARE: If you resort to insults directed at the candidates such as making fun of his/her former habits, appearance, or flaws, rather than substantive arguments about the candidate themselves, you're not doing your candidate any favors. At some point, the nomination is going to be decided, and then we'll have to focus our energies on the real mission: beating the Republicans. All of this nastiness doesn't serve us well, and makes deep and painful rifts which may be difficult to heal once the convention is over. I think Hillary and Obama are both great and can take on these Recumbaglicans, and that's what this is all about anyway: beating Mittens or McCain.
