Ben & I Supported Edwards But We Are Going For Obama
As many of you know I have a 26 year old son who was horribly wounded in Iraq, he was with me three weeks ago and we decided Edwards was our choice. His younger sister Peyton (age six) and I worked our asses off for John but Ben and I talked tonight and we are throwing our weight behind Obama. Hillary supporters may ridicule us and Edwards supporters may call us turn coats but we are fighting for Obama now. We only have two choices and we are going with Obama.

3. in a primary you should vote with your heart..and if that is what your heart tells you..
then go for it.

No one should tell you who to vote for..it comes from the heart..especially in the primary!!

I am glad you are at peace with your decision ..you have sacrificed so much..your whole family has..

no one should have anything but thanks for all you have endured.

Thanks Binka..

I already voted..but if i had a choice i would vote John again..but that would be my choice ..not yours...

You Vote who you want Binka..i respect your choice.

Your son is gorgeous too and I hope he is restored to health soon, His service was precious and appreciated.

11. You know I love you, but after what Obama did to gays, I just can't.
Throwing us under the bus to pander to South Carolina Christians, no apology, not a second thought about pandering to them, he wounded so many of us more than you can ever know, Binka, and it still hurts a lot.

15. Why would those who support Hillary Clinton ridicule you?
I don't support Barack, I don't trust the hype that's trying to make him into a legend in his own time.

I despise his dog whistles to the anti-GLBT voters. But all the information that's out there about Barack is just as available to you as it is to me. It's your choice.

16. How Dare you...you TRAITOR
lol j/k as an Obama supporter I say welcome aboard but I do also support Edwards. I would have been happy if any of these men got the ticket. By the way give your son an extra hug from this NJ friend :grouphug: . There are many mothers that are in similar situations as yourself. At my job we have a friend who comes into the library all the time. Right before X-mas we decided to send a care package for her Son who is over in Iraq in honor of her behalf. She worries about him dearly and in turn we worry about her. We just wanted to make him know that there are many people back home who salute him and are taking care of his mommy. Anyway I hope your son recovers fully and has a long and happy life.

17. Welcome on board Binka
I've always respected you and valued your posts on this forum and it's great to see your very handsome and courageous son also on Obama's team now. I too was a former Edwards supporter who has now moved over to Obama (not that it makes any difference since I can't vote for him due to my being a foreign citizen). And I think it's great that your daughter is becoming involved and interested in politics at such a young age

All our troops deserve better than the hell Bush/Cheney have consigned them to. I wish more military members could understand that our opposition of the war is not opposition to their service.

20. voting my heart...
edwards all the way, but... do what you must. that's what's still great about america that we still (at least there's still the illusion) have choices and can make our own. which is why i have already voted edwards absentee and will probably write him in in nov. crazy? yeah. whatever. it may be our last free vote and i'm going to make sure it's for the one i want.

22. Hi Binka!
Edited on Sat Feb-02-08 07:36 AM by TexasObserver
Binka, thank you for your words. I lurked on GD and GDP the past year, mainly for the election run up and the Bush trash talk. When they put all the primary stuff in GDP and all hell broke loose there a few weeks ago, I tried desperately to keep reading. Recently, I gave up and joined, so I could have Hide Threads and its buddy, IGNORE, to help me thin out the junk.

But last year I started reading your poignant story and have been moved by it. I always said to myself "if I ever join, I'm telling Binka thanks."

I sure hope your boy is doing great. He could be one of mine, except I begged mine not to join the military, because I didn't want them being pawns for Bush and Cheney. I know boys will do what they decide they need to do, and I do not regret my time in military. But I never trusted Bush to treat soldiers right, and time has proved me right.

Give him a sharp salute for me, would you?

PS. I was also pro Edwards, and disappointed he left the race early, but you have to respect a person's decision to get out. I was hoping for an Edwards-Obama ticket, but the reverse would be good, too. I'm excited about the reception Obama is getting from people new to the process of elections, and hope to see that come to full fruition.
