The Clintons' African Photo-Op Tour: a Flashback to a Distraction from "Troubled Times"
Edited on Sat Feb-02-08 11:16 AM by CorpGovActivist
In December 1996, http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=clinton+appoints+%22sylvia+matthews%22+december+1996+deputy">Sylvia Matthews was named as Deputy White House Chief of Staff. Ms. Matthews is a native of Hinton, West Virginia, which lies at the bottom of the mountains down from Beckley, where I'm from. Her appointment was an enormous source of pride to the entire area.

On http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_26">January 26, 1998, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lewinsky_scandal#Denial_and_subsequent_admission">Hillary stood by Bill as he wagged his finger at us and "that" woman.

The http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/multimedia/timeline/9809/starr.report/narrative/n14.htm#L159
">timeline of Clinton's denials include him looking Ms. Matthews and his other Chief of Staff circle in the eye, in the Oval, and denying wrongdoing.

This still rankles in West Virginia. It just does.

To help distract attention from the "problem," and apparently believing her boss, http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=clinton+africa+1998">Ms. Matthews helped arrange a gauzy photo-op trip to Africa for the Clintons.

I remember this quite distinctly. Ms. Matthews was out of the country when I contacted her about a certain BushCo. Bank's ongoing criminal activities, and I had to wait for her to get back from this photo-op trip for a response.

Ms. Matthews took the trip to Africa deeply to heart. Her http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=%22sylvia+matthews+burwell%22+africa+bill+melinda+gates+foundation">work now for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (which publishes its donor lists) was sparked, in large part, by that trip.

Leaders of African nations who were used as props by the Clintons during the "troubled times" may have a slightly different view on the sincerity of Obama v. Clinton on African/American relations.

P.S. The Obama campaign should take note of a very - VERY - important geographical fact. Hinton's media markets include SW Virginia (votes February 12) and Kentucky (May 20). West Virginia holds its own primary on May 13.

crap cooked up by the weekly standard, free republic or Ken Starr! Even they wouldn't go this far.

6. It's a factual timeline.
And you might be interested in what Ms. Matthews has to say about the whole thing.
