Obama '04 vs Obama '08
The Obama of 2004 might have a bone to pick with Obama, the presidential candidate of 2008.

For example, in the Oct. 30 debate, Obama hesitantly raised his hand and joined with most of
his Democratic rivals to declare he opposed decriminalizing marijuana. But as a Senate candidate,
Obama he supported eliminating criminal penalties for marijuana use or possession.

In 2003, Obama said he supported the children of illegal aliens' receiving the same benefits
as citizens, "whether it's medical, whether it's in-state tuition." Asked specifically whether he
included "undocumented" people, Mr. Obama replied, "Absolutely."

But on Jan. 21, when Obama was asked whether his health care proposal covers illegal aliens,
he said "no" and that he first wants to cover the U.S. citizens and legal residents without health care.

Obama's differing answers are among five conflicts between positions he took while running for
Senate in 2004 and those he now articulates while running for president. Experts said the likely
reason for the changes was that Obama ran as a liberal during his Senate run but has become
more centrist as he pursues the broad coalition required to win the White House.

So, he changed his positions to get elected?

Hillary: http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/2/1/234527/0014/392/448115

She never changes. She will always be a thief (as shown above) and responsible for 1 million deaths (IWR vote).

7. IIRC, he pulled a "I misunderstood the question" line when challenged about the flip flop
on the pot.

Of course, what that does do is send one message to the geezers watching the debate, and another to the kids reading Rolling Stone, or what-have-you.

Information for folks to spin any way they want...

Hispanic leaders say he has betrayed the trust of the people who always gave him their votes.
"He's lost his vision; he's lost his feet on the ground," said Hispanic leader Carmen Velasquez.

Obama is being criticized after siding with Republicans in the Senate to approve a 700-mile wall across the Mexican border. The vote happened almost two months ago. Obama defended his position, saying "I am confident that, if you look at my track record, there hasn't been a stronger friend to the Latino community than me." Chicago's CBS2 reports that Obama met with Latino leaders in Illinois and assured them that the vote was "part of a larger strategy".

In 2003, Obama sponsored a bill that expanded eligibility for KidCare and FamilyCare by amending "the Children's Health Insurance Program Act to provide that a child with a household income of 200%, rather than 185%, of the federal poverty level is eligible to participate in the Program." The House version of the bill was sponsored by state Rep. Sandra Pihos, a Republican. On July 1, 2003, Illinois Gov. Ron Blagojevich (D) signed the bill into law. During both his 2004 U.S. Senate campaign and his current presidential campaign, Obama has repeatedly highlighted his sponsorship of the bill, often saying that he "expanded health care to 150,000 children and their parents in Illinois." According to enrollment statistics provided by the Kaiser Foundation, the two programs expanded enrollment by more than 150,000. From a September 25, 2007, analysis of a recent Obama campaign advertisement by PolitiFact, a project of the St. Petersburg Times and Congressional Quarterly:

After the new law passed, both programs saw sizable increases in enrollment. Children's enrollment increased by 55,421 between 2003 and 2005, according to a study from the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation. Adult enrollment increased by 100,458 between 2003 and 2006. That comes to a total of 155,879. So after Obama's legislation passed, more than 150,000 people did get health insurance.

Several Phoenix Latino political leaders publicly endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for president Tuesday.
John Laredo, former Arizona House Minority Leader, said that the work Obama, who is an Illinois
senator, has done against racial profiling and other issues have benefited Latinos.
"His history as a civil-rights attorney, in particular his focus on voting rights, his support of the
Dream Act - those things are what matters to the Latino community here," he said. "We need someone
that's not going to take our vote for granted."
State Rep. Steve Gallardo, D-Phoenix, said Obama's experience addressing the needs of people of color
is documented. "Look at what he's done for minorities and Latinos in Illinois," he told Latino voters.
