John McCain Frightens Me...
I never really did much research on the man, but with the growing realization that he will most likely be the Republican nominee I decided to do some surfing. Just reading his Wikipedia bio scares the shit out of me:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_mccain

The man is reckless, angry, superstitious, comes from a long line of military men, hateful and war-mongering. At times he seems worse then Shrub; while I think it's admirable that he has done certain things in his life, and endured many hardships the idea of this man setting policy and steering the ship into war scares the crap out of me.

Thoughts?

1. The republicans could run Gumby & still get 48% of the vote. It's
the way things work anymore.

2. I think he spent his whole life wanting to run a war. He'll get his way--
Iraq and Afghanistan will probably be too boring and settled for him, so he'll start a whole new one of his own.

4. He's not quite all there imo...
But Republicans usually fall in line (while we fall in love) ~ so we'll be smart to nominate someone who can grab the most indie and disenfranchised Rep. votes.

5. Coming from a long line of military men is NOT a crime.

Without military men (and women), we'd be speaking German and Japanese. Or Russian. Or Chinese. That Kumbayah/We Are The World shit only works if the whole world is onboard--and they aren't.

McCain's problem is that he wasn't SUITED to the military lifestyle. He behaved poorly, and had he NOT been the son and grandson of flag officers, he would have been booted out of the Academy in a flash--the Academy back then was HIGHLY competitive--only the best and the brightest got in, and he wasn't one of them (Navy was a MUCH better gig than Army in the Vietnam era).

He has personality issues, but being from a 'line of military men' didn't cause them.

7. As a matter of fact
Both McCain's grandfather and father were Admirals in the United States Navy. McCain also attended the United States Naval Academy and finished near the bottom of his graduating class in 1958.
So much for his education credentials, sort of like our current resident at the White House.

8. He wasn't the anchor man, though he should have been.
I think he was something like third from the bottom.

McCain's daddy was CINUSNAVEUR while he was at the Hilton. His mother talked about it in that CSPAN interview (fascinating bit of oral history, that).

13. I didn't mean offense
...but it concerns me whenever high ranking individuals from the military run for offices traditionally held by civilians (i.e. Grant, Eisenhower)

6. He should frighten you
If he's elected the mlitary industrial complex wins the whole enchilada.

He'll make Bush look like a pacifist.

He's nuts.

10. Riiight. Another DU McCain supporter. Sure, he'll be just dandy, and bomb, bomb, bomb,
singing all the while.

Here come the 100 year war.

14. Yes, McCain would do such a better job that Clinton. Tell me about his healthcare plan again?
How about taxes? Creating jobs? He admitted that "economy stuff" just isn't his bag.

He loves war. That's about it.

15. I so understand how you feel
The issue that really concerns me is the Supreme Court. Good God, all we need are a couple
more fools and we're done for. No matter how hurt, disappointed or disillusioned with our
choice of candidate, I couldn't vote for the opposition party for the Judge thing alone.

12. McCain Would Frighten Any Sane Man or Woman
but then, so would the rest of the GOP crowd. If anything, McCain harkens back to Eisenhower's GOP, although he talks like Reagan reborn (and suffering from Alzheimers).

16. I keep thinking
He has a hard year of campaigning ahead of him. Maybe he'll crumple and look like total hell
before next November and litterly scare people away. But he'll probably have the same stuff injected in him that Cheney does!

17. He wasn't much of a student
He graduated near the bottom of his class, like Bush.

From the entry:

Both McCain's grandfather and father were Admirals in the United States Navy. McCain also attended the United States Naval Academy and finished near the bottom of his graduating class in 1958. .
