Bill Clinton to Apologize at Black Churches in LA
Edited on Sat Feb-02-08 11:45 AM by cali
(so why is Bill apologizing if he didn't do anything wrong?)

by slinkerwink
Sat Feb 02, 2008 at 08:15:03 AM PST

The Washington Post reports that Bill Clinton will be making an apology tour at black churches in Los Angeles:

On Sunday the former president is scheduled to visit black churches in South Central Los Angeles, where he's expected to offer a mea culpa to those who "dearly loved him" when he was their president, Rep. Diane Watson (D-Calif.) says.

Watson, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus who has endorsed Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), tells us she'll usher the former president to more than half a dozen churches in her district where she says he needs to "renew his relationship" with congregants who were turned off by his racially tinged comments in the days leading up to and following the South Carolina primary. (Such as when Clinton compared Sen. Barack Obama's landslide victory to Jesse Jackson's wins in 1984 and 1988.)
slinkerwink's diary :: ::
Congresswoman Maxine Waters will be accompanying him on this apology tour, which shows how much standing Bill and his wife, Hillary, have lost in the African-American community due to their racially-tinged remarks during the South Carolina primary election.

Also, a letter of apology restating the Clintons' commitment to civil rights will go to each African-American church in Los Angeles. Bill Clinton won't be allowed to speak at each church, according to the article, but he'll have a testimony from the African-American minister supporting him.

She says while Clinton will probably not be allowed to speak at the churches, he will at least be introduced and his presence made known by a publicly elected official from their own community "who they have known for decades."
This tells me that the African-American vote in Los Angeles may very well be decisive for Obama, and that this damage control is an attempt to stop a wide disparity in the vote on Super Tuesday.

1. Link would be helpful
I don't not believe it, but the slammers will be here shortly if you don't post it. They'll be here if you do, but the direction of their rage will be less predictable.

3. Why would
he apologise if he claims he did nothing wrong? Isn't that what HRC supporters claim? That its all made up? why would he apologise then?

Is he calling HRC supporters liars?

I just searched the WaPo and didn't see this article.

Why not link to the original instead of somebody's blog? And you know that blogger was banned from here a long time ago, right?

14. How naive,
Bill didn't do anything wrong, but the media and the Obama campaign blew his words beyond comprehension, so of course he's got to get some control over that. He probably won't even utter a word:

"She says while Clinton will probably not be allowed to speak at the churches, he will at least be introduced and his presence made known by a publicly elected official from their own community "who they have known for decades."

Ridicule an entire gender/race/sexualorientation to benefit yourself, then apologise to... benefit yourself. It's beautiful, isnt it? How many people can they belittle to achieve their goals?

23. Wait. How the hell is he going to apologize if he's not going to be "allowed" to speak?
Edited on Sat Feb-02-08 11:57 AM by Skip Intro
we have this:

-------------------
She says while Clinton will probably not be allowed to speak at the churches, he will at least be introduced and his presence made known by a publicly elected official from their own community "who they have known for decades."
-------------------

how do you apologize if you're not allowed to speak?

but wait, we have this too:

-------------------
Also, a letter of apology restating the Clintons' commitment to civil rights will go to each African-American church in Los Angeles. Bill Clinton won't be allowed to speak at each church, according to the article, but he'll have a testimony from the African-American minister supporting him.
-------------------

but that's just some characterization in an article - just a passing mention in the orignal article:

--------------------
Watson predicts Clinton's visit to churches in her district and his letter of apology will be enough to mend fences with those who once considered him one of their own. "I think it will be a good day," she says.
--------------------

http://blog.washingtonpost.com/sleuth/2008/02/bill_clinton_prepares_mea_culp.html

that's the only mention in the WP article - who's calling it a letter of apology? so far, it seems to be the WP blogger.

So Clinton is accompanying African American elected officials to primarily African American churches. What else is new? All Democrats do that. I don't see why it needs to be an apology.

It takes a big man to admit mistakes..but I am not suprised that it is not accepted or that some will continue to shit on him.
I have learned personally that some are incapable of graciously accepting an apology..very sad for them.

46. what amazes me is how quick they turned on him...but then again
if it all began with a lie driven by the obama camp and fed to the whore media and they report it as the clintons are bringing race into the campaign and that is all you read, hear and see then the truth can never catch up to the lie...

Obama's campaign knows full-well what's going on over at HuffPost with the relentless personal bashing of the Clintons. He's using the "she's too divisive" tactic today and that fits right in with the meme of the day.

Question: Why didn't Obama attack Kerry for his war position in 2004? Because he wanted to go along to get along and climb the Demo ladder. When he had the nation's attention at Demo-Con 2004, did he speak up? No, he protecting his political viability, something he attacks Hillary for.

"I don’t read anything negative into Clinton’s observation. Bill has done so much for race relations and inclusion,I would tend not to read a negative scenario into his comments."
-- Jessie Jackson, asking "What the fuck?" when the Black community went bat-shit crazy when Clinton dared to mention his name in Carolina

"CNN runs a loop on "the Clinton's racism problems." If the whore media says the Clintons are racists, who can argue with them?

Suddenly, some Democrats believe every word the whore media feeds them.
