Obama Picks Up Latino Support in Delaware

As the Democratice Presidential contender readies to appear in the First State, the group Delaware
Latinos for Obama launches its campaign on behalf of the Illinois Senator.

The organization's co-chairs are Wilmington City Council Member Samuel Prado and long-time community activist Maria Matos. Matos says Obama has stood up for Latinos during his entire career and worked with their families during his days as a Chicago community organizer. Prado says Obama's life and work "represents the unique hope, dreams and struggles of new Americans."

Movie and television actor Kal Penn is campaigning for Obama at several stops in Newark and Wilmington Saturday, including a student rally at the University of Delaware.

Chris Lu, Delaware Communications Director for the Obama '08 Campaign, says Obama's wife Michelle spoke before 2,700 supporters at two rallies Thursday. That easily beats the previous turnout high of 250 in any other state for an appearance by her. The Senator will address a rally tomorrow afternoon at Wilmington's Rodney Square.
