There in nothing more certain
There is nothing more certain in my life and yours than the fact that when you tell yourself you're going to fail you will.

Why do so many take issue with the optimism of Obama?

IMHO our country is without hope right now, we're believing that the worst effects of Global Warming are inevitable, that we have to live in a Country full of crime and corruption, that we cannot get the corporate lobbyists out of government, that we can't really make a universal healthcare plan a reality, that the outrageous division of wealth will never be moderated, that politics can only be played by "their rules", that the best we can do is try to slow the inevitable fall of America.

I'm of the opinion that a Leaders' primary job is to INSPIRE people to unite them to common cause. The bully pulpit is the most powerful tool in a Presidents' arsenal. We need a President who can bring the whole country together in common cause to face our many daunting challenges.

Obama/Edwards 08 :bounce:

2. Dunno, I've smiled and BSed myself into more than one job
when I had no background in it and knew I'd have to hit the library fast and still thought I had no chance of lasting more than a week before I got found out, but turned out to be a howling success.

Sometimes knowing your limitations and trying to compensate for them is better than all the self confidence and optimism in the world.

After all, look at Stupid. He's utterly convinced not only of his outstanding intelligence but of his utmost importance to the continued functioning of the entire universe.

Get it?

4. Have you paid attention
Since Kucinich dropped out? No offense but really he's constantly bashed for his optimism and his supporters are called mindless zombies because we support him.

5. Since you asked,
I haven't paid much attention to Obama since I crossed him off of my list of possible compromise votes, about the time he declared his candidacy. I read his website, I saw him debate, and the more I saw and heard, the more disturbed I was by his platform, which I don't find to be at all friendly.

I haven't paid much attention to the campaign wars, because neither he nor HRC is going to get my vote, so I've probably missed the worst of the bashing you refer to.

Not that I don't believe you; the war between the two camps has been ugly. For what it's worth, while I don't agree at all with your choice of candidate, I don't think you are a zombie and I respect your right to make the best choice you can. Whether or not it meets with my approval, which is not exactly high on anyone's list of criteria, lol.

That's what we are all, in the long run, trying to do. I have no idea why anyone things that ugly attacks on individuals or groups will result in them changing their minds. Generally, the more opposition I face, the more stubborn I get, but that's just me.

6. I'll let you know
when I feel included in Obama's message.

I'll vote for him if he's the nominee, but right now I haven't felt this loving embrace he's apparently wrapped around everyone.

7. I don't have an issue with Obama's optimism
My problem with him is that seems to be the only, or major, thing he's pushing. Without a firm grasp of reality, optimism becomes Pollyannish. A good president (or anyone) needs both. What bothers me about some Obama supporters is that they've bought into the optimism wholeheartedly, and don't want to look at some of his negatives, which, like Clinton's, do exist.
