Ted Sorensen on JFK's killer Nixon snark. |
|
On AAR, Sorensen recounted a story about when Nixon would be out of the campaigning for a few weeks due to a leg injury.
Kennedy, taking the high road, said "I will not mention his name unless it it to speak favorably of him."
A couple of weeks later, Kennedy said, "have you noticed I haven't mentioned his name?"

1. Yes! I love it. And this is one of the things I miss about John Kennedy. |

One of my favorites was when they were in Paris and Jackie charmed everyone. He said, "I am the man who accompanied Jacqueline Kennedy to Paris'"

3. Yes. A classic. We haven't had the likes of JFK since, really. I consider how |
|
respectfully and agilely he handled the press corps, for instance, and how it compares with the current White House inhabitant -- a jabbering ape with rocks for brains.

At a press conference in Burbank, California, a reporter asked, "Senator, when does the moratorium end on Nixon's hospitalization and your ability to attack him?"
Kennedy responded, "Well, I said I would not mention him unless I could praise him until he got out of the hospital, and I have not mentioned him."

8. I remember a press conference where an older woman stood up and asked |
|
"what have you done to advance womens' rights?" It stopped him short - he just looked at her for a moment then said "well obviously not enough!."
