Mr. Obama....this is the story of "Two Cities" given 24 Years Ago! Listen and Weep
Because Mr. Obama...whatever you say ....will always pale in history ...and always be small and shallow compared to THIS As hard as you try...THIS will always be the Speech for those of us who are Democrats. And...there's more of this long speech on You Tube...but to listen to this "snip" TWENTY FOUR YEARS LATER...and realize what has gone on ...is something that breaks one's heart.. But the YOUNG need to hear it.... to know...what has gone on Before Obama The LEGACY!

Peace!

1. He sounds just like Al Pacino in the Devil's Advocate.
I wonder if that was intentional on Al's part.

3. Why do you have to trash one to lift another up?
It's possible for more than one person to be inspiring. Indeed it's within the reach of all of us, in our own way.

The universe is vast, my friend. She contains multitudes. :)

The pettiness is unnecessary and divisive on both sides.

Peace:thumbsup:

4. They were both great speeches.
I heard them both. They are two of the finest convention speeches ever.

Why do you feel the need to denigrate Obama? His 04 speech will always be remembered as one of the
finest.

5. You know what I don't hear in that speech.
I don't hear what Democrats are supposed to be FOR. He does a great job of telling us how destructive Reagan is and that's what he needed to do in that speech. But the trouble is that we have an entire generation of voters who have never seen a Democratic Party that was anything but "hey, at least we aren't as bad as the Republicans."

Bill Clinton and the entire party, especially since '94, has been too afraid to stand up for progressive values. "I'm not as scary as Bush and the Republicans" isn't going to cut it anymore. Obama is the first candidate in a long time that is FOR something meaningful instead of just being against something and having a long list of poll-tested programs. That's why young people like him.

7. What is it Obama is going to do about the conditions that still exist
24 years later? He talks about HOPE and CHANGE...but what does he propose that Dems couldn't have done in 24 years?

8. That's what's wrong with the speech as you say...He addresses the issues
that are sadly much of the same that's with us today...24 years leater (sheesh) but...neigher Cuomo or Obama..really say what should be done.

Note, though that Cuomo wasn't running for President...and he left it up to whomever the Dem Nominee would be to decide what to do...and it was Clinton...BUT OBAMA IS RUNNING...and he poses "Hope for America"..."Change is on the Way." yet he doesn't, himself, say HOW he will make this CHANGE AND HOPE a Reality.

So...what I'm saying is that we Dems have heard much promise and incredibly inspiring rhetoric for YEARS...but, in the end, when our Dems get in there...what happens? The hope and dreams go to the back burner and it's always left to a new "wordsmith" and "inspiring evangelical" to renew the message without having produced the solution of the program that would solve what the "rhetoric" is calling for.
