Here in California, the delegates to the convention are distributed
proportional to the number of votes.

The more votes he gets, the more delegates he receives.
The more delegates he receives, the louder his voice is at the convetion,
and hopefully, some of his ideas will be included in the democratic platform.
If he has enough delegates to keep Clinton or Obama from winning the nomimation,
then he becomes a power broker, and his voice get really loud at the convention.

I think you need at least 15% of the vote to start receiving delegate in CA.
He already has quite a number of votes from early voting (i.e. absentee/mail),
before he suspended his campaign.

So there you have it.
If you want to see some of Edwards ideas included in the Party Platform
he will need delegates. And the only way to get that is to vote for him.

1. And I thought it was only wasting one's vote on a 3rd party candidate.

3. He has conveyed that he does not want supporters to do this...
in fact it underscores the very reason he suspended his campaign--that the Repugs will rally around their candidate by Super Tuesday and the Dems likewise need to do so, if they are to win in November. I'm not happy about the situation, but that is his assessment. In Colorado, I likewise have to make a choice between Obama and HRC. But, I will do so.

7. Why call me dense? ...
What sense is it to rally around one candidate on Super Tuesday,
when we'll rally around one candidate for the General Election?

The Democratic Party wants less candidates so that their Party Platform
at the convention is not all over the place.

But to include Edwards ideas, he has to have delegates so that his
ideas are included in the Party Platform. And since CA. does not award
delegates in a winner takes all manner, our votes don't get wasted.

If you care about Edwards message, and want his ideas included in
the Party Platform at the end of the convention, then he needs delegates.
And the only way to get them is to vote for him.

4. You are certainly welcome to...
People can vote for whomever they want to, whether it be Clinton, Obama, Edwards, Biden, Kucinich, etc. Hell, they can write in Al Gore if they want.

But Edwards isn't running anymore and he isn't going to get any delegates. He was going to have a very hard time getting 15% of the vote before he stopped running. That's why he stopped.

For me, it's time to move on to my next choice (for me, it's Obama). I'm proud to have supported John Edwards (both times, although the first time it was after Dean dropped out). But, I'm going to vote for who I think is the best candidate still running.

5. That's one of the problems we have here in CA.
By the time the primaries reach the most populous state,
3 really small states (IO, NH, SC) get to decide who we should vote for.
MI & FL have no delegates.

Also in CA. you can't just write in a candidates name. They have to be
a valid write in candidate. So voting for Al Gore is a wasted vote.

While Edwards is still on the ballot.
The MSM wanted only 2 candidates (Clinton & Obama), while Edwards only
received 7% of the coverage, yet he still did very well is Iowa.

The only way his idea will be include in the Party Platform is to have
delegates, and the only way to get delegates is to get votes.
