In the 1980s, many Haitian male refugees incarcerated at Krome (in Miami), and Fort Allen (in Puerto Rico) reported a strange condition called gyneacomastia, a situation in which they developed full female breasts.

Ira Kurzban, attorney for the Haitian Refugee Center, managed to pry free government documents via a lawsuit on behalf of the refugees. These contained the startling information that prison officials had ordered the refugees sprayed repeatedly with highly toxic chemicals never designed for such generic use. The officer in charge of the refugee camp? None other than Gen. Wesley Clark, chief of operations at the US Navy internment camp at Guantanamo, and later head of NATO forces bombing Yugoslavia. The documents go on to say that lengthy exposure to the particular chemicals can cause hormonal changes that induce development of female breasts. Medical studies of female Haitian refugees in New York revealed that they had a much higher rate of cervical cancer than the rest of the female population.

This is either true or untrue. If true, it's horrific and criminal. If untrue, it's a terrible hoax.

In which case do you find the idea of people being poisoned so that they develop gyneacomastia and cervical cancer funny?

Anyone care to tell us why a story about mass-poisoning of Haitian prisoners is funny, whether true or not?

Is the idea that the story is untrue? Well would it be as funny if it was a hoax about white people in concentration camps?

Or is it that you think the story is true, and funny anyway?

27. The actual story ended getting very soundly debunked

I can't remember the actual details about it anymore but whatever problems that man may or may not have had had absolutely nothing to do with Clark in any way, to the point where the truth revealed that it was impossible for Clark to have been at all involved.

But during the primary wars that were waged on DU in 2004 this became a poster child example for wild false charges that went WAY over the top, and as repulsive as it may be, you have to admit that the literal wording of the attack on Clark at the time, captured in this thread's OP, is pretty damn unforgettable.

So this thread is a tension breaker for many old timers, helping us remember that things got this bad on DU before and we all lived through it and most of us united for the General Election.

If for example someone had made up a hoax hat Clark killed Jews in World War II, no one would be "breaking tension" saying "ha ha Haitian man-tits."

It is what used to be called but can't exactly be called here now a certain color of humor. The fact that you "missed it" back then is the only excuse I can give you for why more on this thread didn't react the way you did upon seeing it posted. Those who didn't "miss it" back then accutely remember the ugliness from that time, and that is the trigger to the tension release aspect for some now.

But I am not trying to overly defend this or say that you are wrong in any way. You made two posts about this and sincerely seemed to want someone to explain the reactions this thread was getting so I just honestly tried to give you an answer. Peace.
