We can always go back to partisan mudslinging |
|
If the whole "hope" thing doesn't work out, Hillary can lead the way and we can go back to winning the partisan battles on the floor of the Senate the way she's been doing for the last 8 years.
Seriously, ugly fighting is easy and will always be an option.
A liberal Democratic black man bringing 15,000 people out in 25 degree weather in Idaho -- that chance may never come again.
Take A Chance - Change The World.

13. Always got to play victim, heh? |
|
See, if Obama wins, it's not because he is the better candidate, it's because Hillary is a woman! :sarcasm:
Hillbots will just never get it.
It's not that Hillary is a woman or Obama is black. It's simply that Obama inspires people. And Hillary, well, doesn't.
If it was just a man v. woman thing, why didn't John Edwards win in a landslide, being that he is both male and white?

20. No, the MSM has been played |
|
because if they think Obama is a corporate politician, they don't know what the hell they're talking about.
His record in Illinois is clear.
His constitutional amendment to make Health Care A Right says it all.
It's fine to spin things in a campaign. But people have got to know where the spin ends if their candidate doesn't win.

21. Look, I'll agree that the MSM didn't give Edwards a fair shake |
|
but for us here in DU, do WE need the MSM to tell us who to support? I don't think so. I thought very carefully about possibly choosing Edwards. I like a lot of his populist positions. And there IS a class war going on right now (and since the days of Ronald Reagan actually). Union busting corporatist elites (the ownership society, not the debt ridden underclass) want to run this country and make as much as they can.
But there was one thing that stopped me.
Edwards not only voted for the IWR, he co-sponsored the bill.
And it's the biggest foreign policy blunder in the history of the US. Bigger than Vietnam, bigger than the Spanish American war (a war started by newspapers!).
I can't bring myself to vote for someone that made such a big mistake. Shows a lack of judgment.
John later (and correctly) apologized for his vote. And it terms that show a real contriteness.
So I can forgive him... but actions have consequences, and the consequence of showing that lack of judgment should, in my view, disqualify someone from higher office.
And, quite frankly, John had a good stump speech, and Elizabeth is head and shoulders above the other spouses running (not that they aren't good, she is just... well... better). John was the best debater. But Barack can inspire people like very few before him. And that does a lot. As for the actual issues other than the war, Kucinich was better than Edwards who is slightly better than OBama who is tied with Clinton.
Judgment goes to Kucinich and Obama. Good judgment should be the highest quality of the President. After all, if it was just experience, Cheney should have made a great VP/co-President.

4. Well-said. I don't understand why so many seem ready to make |
|
the "safe" choice, which will result in partisan ugliness and Congressional gridlock and investigations and Big-Dawg Bimbo Watch, when we have a candidate that has taken everything that's been thrown at him, has fought back, has made so few missteps, has run such a brilliant campaign, and has inspired so many from all regions and corners and political leanings--I can't believe we might be on the verge of throwing away a phenomenon for a nostalgia trip. It's sickening to me. And my husband is in complete denial, he insists Obama WILL win, HAS to win.

22. My husband is pretty psyched too |
|
Even when I got discouraged and started to think I would have to choose someone else, he was always adament that Obama was going to be in the White House. It would at least have been nice if there were some evidence the Clintons had learned something, but from the Burkle and Hsu and Khazakstan stuff, it doesn't look like it.

12. those years were filled with anger, pain, resentment , disappointments |
|
when i think back i feel that i was always defending on stupid crap like Lewinsky. people made fun of Gore for being boring and the way he talked about the issues. but i actually looked forward to that.
with Kerry i felt what i was like to truly love and support a candidate. not just defend him against ugly attacks, but to be proud of what he stood for.
Obama is getting many people to see what it's like to love the candidate and message and see hope in it for a better future. he is unique.

15. Well I lived in Spokane 20 miles from Idaho and just across the |
|
border a bunch of people moved to Coeur d'Alene and set up the National Aryan Brotherhood compound.
I am in an inter racial marriage and if you do not understand why "A liberal Democratic black man bringing 15,000 people out in 25 degree weather in Idaho", is not a fucking big deal, then as the OP mentioned you are in fact demonstrating your ignorance.
Something of a historical nature is happening. 100 years from now they will be studying Dredd Scott, the Missouri Compromise, Seperate but Equal, the 4 girls of Birmingham, April 1968, the civil rights acts and this curious thing that happened when all of a sudden in the year 2008 . . .
it isn't finished yet
but you cannot trivialize it.

If we are going to change the world for the better that is how it will be done.
Or as you say just go back to the awful infighting that defines our politics of today.
I know which I choose. Thank you for doing the same.
