Can I just say...
I'm kinda sick of this BS "the young people don't know what the hell their talking about" and "the old people have fubar'ed this all, lets get something new".
I mean come on, young vs old? Is this a reality game?
We're one step from black vs white, and that's only because we can't see each other behind our screen names.
I'm 20, don't know who I'm voting for (I love Edwards), and all this negativity makes me wanna puke. For years we have been told all through high school that we should get out and vote! And now that a lot of "youngins" are expressing their opinions, that's a problem? I mean honestly, I know that the majority of the voting population has been in this world more than 30 years, but can I just ask where this world is? I always hear my relatives say, "oh sorry about what we're passing on to you!" I'm not trying to say that the powers purposely screwed over our world, I'm just want to point out that maybe a "new" ideas about the world isn't so horrible.
Thanks for reading, please don't kill me, my mid-terms are doing that already! :D

Syd

2. I have my leanings, but I was hoping to avoid being attacked.
It seems like wherever the words "Obama" or "Hillary" are written, a terrible curse of bloodthristy hounds are waiting....oh crap, gotta run now:hide:

4. I think young people voting is excellent......
how could it be anything but good?

In reference to the folks here at DU on young folks, there are some old farts that act their shoe size, so I'm not sure who's posts you have been reading, but they certainly weren't supporters of Obama. Obama supporters, it can be safe to say, are in awe of young voters. We get it! :)

5. Welcome to DU, Syd!
As an older person, I'm thrilled that so many young people are voting in this election cycle. I hope it continues!

I agree with you; painting people with a broad brush based on age, sex, race, etc. is silly. Young, middle aged, and "old" (whatever that means) people all have a lot to contribute. And in the end, your vote and mine are equal; age has nothing to do with it.

That said, "young people don't know what they're talking about" probably comes from some of the rudeness we've seen here on DU. Not that all, or most, young people are rude, or that all rude people are young, but there have been a number of posts here from self-identified young people that are over the top. Unfortunately, in a classic invalid syllogism, this extropolates into:

Some young people write rude posts
This post is rude
This post was written by a young person.

Good luck in your mid-terms! I can relate.

6. Yes and no.. Wisdom is hopefully gained with age... but with that
wisdom comes the insight of the folly and how bad it is... Nothing wrong with new ideas if there are new ideas... I don't really see any from either two candidates... There is this elite popultation who are extremely good at dividing the United States.. if people realized how powerful the masses could be as a united force, we'd have a Kucinich president... but the media and govt are controlled by a lot of special intrests.. And they don't want everyone to figure out that if they stop their petty bickering, we'd have true equality.. We'd have new ideas, we'd have real artists producing real lyrics and poets speaking to your hearts.. We'd have engineers and scientists and inventors all working together to make new and exciting things.. We would have the freedom to travel the world and do what we wanted and meet who we wanted, without someone asking for your papers please...

Yes, young should vote, but the young need to go and learn history, philosophy, and art/ culture from around the world.. because what they're feeding you from the Bush's txt books is not enough to educate you on the real possibilities of real change.
