Grateful Dead to reunite for Obama concert
I have no preferred candidate (seriously, I still haven't decided who I'm voting for in the 2/5 MA primary), but the Dead was/remains my all-time favorite band. So...

Grateful Dead to reunite for Obama concert
Sat Feb 2, 2008 1:26am EST

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters Life!) - The Grateful Dead, the San Francisco cult rock band that has played at political events since the 1960s, will reunite on Monday for the first time in four years to rally support for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, a spokesman said on Friday.

Band leader Jerry Garcia died in 1995. Surviving members have played together occasionally since then, most recently in 2004. On Monday, original members Mickey Hart, Phil Lesh and Bob Weir will play at a San Francisco theater a day before California's primary.

"They have agreed to reunite for this one-time-only event in order to lend support to Senator Obama leading into the crucial 'Super-Tuesday' series of primaries held on Tuesday, February 5th," the band said in a statement.

2. It's always facinating what these elections spark
I don't think this should affect Hillary's support in SF, although I'll admit, this is pretty big stuff for Dead fans (like myself . . . Bob Weir still has the magic)

And the whole world full of petty wars.
Singing I got mine and you got yours
While the latest fashions set the pace.
Lose your step fall out of grace
The radical he rant and rage.
Singing someone got to turn the page
And the rich man in his summer home.
Singing just leave well enough alone.
But his pants are down, his covers blown.
And the politicians throwing stones
So the kids they dance and shake their bones
Cause it's all too clear we're on our own
Singing ashes ashes all fall down, Ashes ashes all fall down

an ice cream sundae without ice cream,

At least Bob Weir's sister Wendy channels the spirit of Jerry's oversoul, so he is still communicating from beyond the dead.

16. I did once stand in front of Jimmy Herring
Edited on Sun Feb-03-08 09:56 AM by Prefer
while Aquarium Rescue Unit played a show in the attic of Skull House at Penn State. Is Jimmy Herring the guitar player for Phil's Dead?

Also some of my friends have a band in San Francisco called "New Monsoon". Does anyone know if they are involved?

I plan to watch the streamed event on the web.

17. As great as the post mortim shows are
I saw some stuff on Youtube with Jimmy Herring playing Music Never stopped - and he is technically wonderful to watch. Still it is missing the soul of Jerry , an undeniable missing ingredient.

With Jerry gone, I am probably one of the closest players left who pays tribute to his improv style. I have a zen approach where I play with no expectations or pre-conceptions and let the music play me. I enjoy seeing what formulates out of the unknown as much as the next guy. If anyone wants to hear a couple tracks PM me.

18. WWJD?
no, not "what would Jerry do?" but think of the alarming parallels.

Jesus reputedly raises Lazarus from the dead. He doesn't win an election, instead, the Romans hang the guy on a wooden cross.

Obama raises the Dead from the dead. Will Obama win an election, or get hung out to dry?

Now, if The Big Bopper, Buddy Holly, and Richie Valens were to rise and do a concert... I'd run the other way. Fast.

what the hell do you mean you haven't decided.

October 2002

"What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other arm-chair, weekend warriors in this Administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne."

He didn't just oppose the war, he called out the neocon ideology and was one of the first to do it.

There is no question on who to vote for - none whatsoever.
