Quentin Young, Early Supporter of Obama, Now Disappointed and Saddened

Dr. Quentin Young was an early supporter of Senator Barack Obama.
But now, Young is worried that Presidential candidate Obama is moving right.

Young is a founder of the Chicago-based Physicians for a National Health Program.
And while Obama may have said early in his career that he supported single payer, clearly he no longer does.

“When I heard about the vote, I wrote him a letter,” Young said. “I told him I was disappointed in him. Rice was the embodiment of everything that was wrong with this administration. So, he called me back and he said – why didn’t you pick up the phone and call me? And he said – do you think Bush would ever send to the Senate a nominee for Secretary of State who I could vote for? I said – you are the Constitutional lawyer. It’s about advice and consent, right? You should have denied him your consent.”

2. Another reason I can't vote for Obama. One of his very first acts as a member of the Foreign

Relations Committee, was to vote in favor of reporting Condi Rice's nomination OUT of committee, and sending it to the full Senate.

It's clear to me that Condi Rice was not qualified to be SoS. She never even understood her role as National Security Adviser. She was caught up in a cold-war era when clearly new threats had long ago emerged.

Yet, Obama reported her nomination out of Committee.

8. Michelle Obama makes $316,962 a year selling medicine for money

She's the vice president for external affairs for a medical center that delights in pursuing the uninsured for the emergency bills and jacking up the price they charge them.

He's been the recipient of more corporate medical money than any other candidate, unless something's changed recently.

Medicine for money is murder. It also just doesn't work very well and it causes endless problems in society due to absenteeism and the like.

Not in a good mood here; I went to a funeral for our kids' first nanny yesterday. He was having a stroke and didn't want his son to take him to the hospital, waiting to see if the "headache" would pass. Nino was a wonderful guy; he leaves four grown children, a grand-daughter and many, many friends. The funeral was packed and very, very sad.

In the end, the conservatives will probably be the ones to finally fix this problem; the model of having employers provide it makes them less competitive in a world economy.

People who don't get the evil of the profit motive in medicine have a problem. People like Edwards who come up with plans to give privatized care one last chance before taking it out of their hands understand the mechanisms of power and have their hearts in the right place. Obama's plan doesn't hold a candle to Clinton's, which is essentially Edwards'.

Don't like hearing this? Fine. Get Obama nominated and we'll just have more senseless deaths.

We don't need a mushy middle. We need someone who will fight to get us out of the * quagmire at home and abroad.
