I found that someone has created a grassroots page for people to pledge that they are still voting for John, please visit there and add your voice!

http://edwardshasmyvote.wordpress.com/

I am an Edwards Democrat!

Disclaimer: I posted this for likeminded people to share, not for flamebait telling us why we are idiots for voting for what we believe in. Thanks, and have a lovely day! :hi:

14. I love it. I was watching CNN today and they had live coverage of portions of BO and HRC speeches
that they were giving. Both of them were hitting on the themes that JE brought to this debate. HRC was making comments about Mobile profits, BO talking about the big pharmaceuticals.

No one can ever tell me that JE hasn't had a huge impact on this race.

I will keep the faith and vote for him on ST. He can still have a positive impact on this.

to vote /draft John at the convention. That's what I gather over at their thread.

We dont have caucuses in my state, so you might check with the Washington

thread on GD-P

166. but - in districts where winner takes all? may be why Wash voting uncommitted so they can hold
their votes til the convention...

In other words if majority caucus goers voted Hillary, then in some districts everyone would have to vote Hillary.]

If they vote uncommitted, they can hold them tight to their chest and put them
all for Edwards while the others would be going Hillary,

I guess.

Why not go over to the Washington Caucus thread and ask over threr.

41. I'd just like to add a bit of IMPORT to this decision here.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=132&topic_id=4374482&mesg_id=4376124

It's starting to look like the race may be deadlocked between Clinton and Obama all the way to the convention.

If this happens, (and let's leave out Michigan and Florida for now) there's a good chance that this nomination may be decided by a very small margin; possibly by the Superdelegates.

If this scenario plays out, Edwards may still have an impact on the final result. So if you are undecided as to whether to still vote for Edwards, keep in mind that what few delegates he may pick up on Super Tuesday (in spite of dropping out) will be his to do with as he pleases. Further concessions may have to be made with regard to the party platform in order to secure those delegates.

In other words, although he bowed out to prevent a brokered convention, it could still happen and he could still end up being the kingmaker.

I'd be more comfortable with him making such a decision than a majority of the superdelegates.

100. Voting for Obama or Clinton would be wasting my vote
since I don't find either of them more appealing than the other. What posts like yours are really saying is, "I deserve an extra vote because your candidate can't win." No, sorry, you and your candidate deserve nothing of the kind. We still have some vestiges of democracy left in this country, and I will vote for the candidate that represents me the best.

62. You have every right to think what you want to...
Some of us choose to look at what has happened here and see that there is something bigger going on. Maybe that's my :tinfoilhat:, but so be it.

Completely separate from that, with him out and looking at the remaining two choices, a vote for him is a vote for his platform, for the things we, as Edwards supporters, believe in. And in my view, these are things that the other two don't represent at all. My hope would be that a decent number of votes to Edwards, even after he is out of the race, would signal to the other two that there are obviously some issues that they are not strong enough on.

And, even though I specifically asked for no negativity in the OP, I thought I'd respond since you appear to have been an Edwards supporter.

83. I'm voting for Edwards, because, ...
if you agree with Edwards message, the only way to get Edwards message included in the
Democratic Party Platform at the convention, is to have delegates for Edwards. The more
delegates he has the bigger voice he gets. Here in CA. delegates are distributed
proportionately, not winner-takes-all, so if Edwards recieves at least 15%, he'll get
delegates.

More votes he gets the more delegates he receives. The more delegates he has at the convention,
the bigger the voice. If he has enough to keep Clinton or Obama from winning outright, then
Edwards becomes a power broker, and will have more of his agenda included in the Party Platform.

So, if you agree with Edwards message, the only way to include his message in the Party Platform
is to continue voting for him.

The DNC wants the least number of candidates so that their Platform is not all over the place.
With Edwards out, then they only have to include the corportists platform, and not the populist.

So, I say continue voting for Edwards, so that your voice is heard.

86. I've just spoken with the attorney at our local Democratic Executive Committee- John's
wording - he says- of "suspending" was highly unusual.(he thought John didnt have the money, but he does and more to come with matching funds in March.

"Yes, it means he could come back in" !!!

So "Suspended Not Ended" is the accurate slogan

He also advises that delegates at the convention could draft John Edwards - so its more important than ever that we get on those phones TODAY, remind people they can vote for John Edwards, he's on their ballot, and get JOhn Edwards the votes to get him delegates at the convention who will draft him.

Go Edwardians for John Edwards :bounce:

105. I am
I am disappointed with the remaining choices that we have, and I feel that if either of them gets nominated, that will be the worst Democratic nominee of my lifetime. I would still have hope that they would be a good president, but there are just too many things about them that I am suspicious of. Also, I have serious questions about their electability, especially if McCain is the Republican nominee (I would definitely vote for either of the two over any Republican).

There is still a chance that the convention will be deadlocked. If it remains deadlocked long enough the nomination will have to be turned over to someone else. Gore is the most likely possibility as far as I can see. Or maybe Wes Clark or John Kerry. Edwards would also be a possibility, though I think that would be a long shot. Anyhow, I think that they would all be better choices than Clinton or Obama.

By voting for Edwards we register our protests, and at the same time we may increase the possibility of a deadlocked convention (If our vote contributes to Edwards delegates). Furthermore, any delegates he has will give him more sway over the convention and may contribute to the likelihood that he will be drafted or given a VP or a cabinet slot -- all which would be good things IMO.

Why should I vote for someone I don't support?

These votes do count, delegates will be earned, the platform will be influenced.

To be honest, I am OK with the either of the other two; however the NJ primary is not a winner take all state. Edwards positions are closest to my own. If he has enough delegates, he can use that power to shape the party platform.

In a European parliamentary system, the minority gets some power in this way in selecting their PM. This is our only chance to have a similar voice, not vote against the other candidates as some suggest, but to give some power to Edward's positions.

Have no fear supporters of either Hillary or Obama, I will support the eventual winner. My support will be very strong if they give some deference to Edward's important issues!!

176. The real "downer" is when a candidate campaigns on a
major promise, like staying in the race and taking the fight to the convention, and then drops out days later.

Sorry that we disagree but there's no doubt that it speaks volumes of Edwards's trustworthiness and character.

139. Question about this
Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 02:24 PM by IDemo
I received this email from "Idaho for Edwards":

JOHN EDWARDS For President:

Your Help Still Needed on Tuesday

Boise, Idaho, Feb 1, 2008

As you know, we are encouraging everyone to “Cast a Vote of Respect and Appreciation for John Edwards” on the first Idaho caucus ballot on February 5th.

In Ada County we want to make sure that message gets to people approaching the Qwest Arena Caucus site. The doors to the arena will open at 5:00 pm and you must be in line at 7:00 pm to get to vote.

At 4:45 pm we are asking those of you who can to join a group gathering in front of the Boise Center on the Grove (directly across from the Qwest Arena doors) to get handouts and stickers to give to and place on people coming to caucus. Please join our merry band of Edwards’ warriors.

Our message to caucus attendees will be, “Please cast your first ballot for John Edwards to show your respect and appreciation for his bringing issues of economic justice to the center of the campaign. Everyone has a chance to recaucus and change their vote to any other candidate later if you would like to change”

Even if they say no to that ask then to wear the Edwards’ sticker in addition to whatever they have for their own candidate out of appreciation for Senator Edwards.

Does an initial ballot which is later changed, whether cast "out of respect and admiration" or any other reason, somehow get tallied in a caucus, even if the candidate does not get the required 15% of votes to remain "viable"? Are the numbers relayed at the state and/or national conventions as a reminder that Edwards (or whomever) had enough support to keep his concerns and issues in mind?

I honestly have no idea as I don't live in a caucus state and don't know much about how they work...I hope so though!

no more than 1st choices at other caucuses have been reported. But perhaps JRE can WIN some caucuses and win some more delegates.

143. As a matter of strong principle, I am voting for Edwards tomorrow.
We are incrementally being relieved of our voices, as American citizens, and I plan to vote for John Edwards because of what he stands for, and in the hope that if enough of us continue to support him, he can have some measure of influence over the party platform at the convention.

In my most pleasurable dreams, neither Hillary nor Obama gets the nomination, and another candidate is chosen -- someone who is less corporately compromised than either Hillary or Obama.

Obama has stated that he does not believe George Bush has committed impeachable offenses. There isn't enough personal charisma in any candidate to overcome that public stance. And Obama's not having voted for the war is simply that he was not in the Congress when that vote happened. I'm fully convinced that, had he had the opportunity, he would have voted for the war, just as Hillary did.

Hillary's continuing drumbeat that she was misled over the IWR vote puts her judgment strongly in question, in my mind.

I am, likewise, strongly concerned over John Edwards' initial support for the war in Iraq, but he at least has done his mea culpas and has gone on to support truly progressive causes. Obama and Hillary can borrow from his ideas, his message, but there's a hollow ring to their support of poverty issues, and other progressive issues.

It is never a waste to vote one's conscience. There's a strong drumbeat on the part of some regular contributors to this forum to assert that standing by principle is selfish. That "selfishness" is what built this country!

149. Voting John Edwards in primary AND writing him in on General Election
After numerous presidential elections where I've automatically voted D, I'm going to stop being an enabler of conservative Dems.

I'm only voting for people who are willing to fight corporations and the conservatives of both parties...even if I have to write them in.

174. If you're in California, ...
you better drop it off at your ROV.
The ROV's throughout CA. are getting about 1500-2500 absentee
ballots a day. The USPS can't handle them fast enough.

So if you have not mailed them by Sat. 2/2 they will not
arrive at the ROV in time (EoE Tuesday 8pm).

So drop it off at the ROV to guarantee that they've received it.
You can also drop it off at any polling place. They are suppose
accept any absentee ballot from anyone, even if you don't live
in the precinct.
