Would McCain Pledging to Serve Just One Term Assuage Concerns About His Age?

I was reading this article about McCain:

McCain might just help himself were he to do what he alluded to in New Hampshire. Remember? “If I said I was running for eight years, I don’t know if that would be a vote-getter - so I am running for a four-year term first.” He should just pledge a four-year term, period. And I’d feel better.

I really do think age will be an issue in the campaign if McCain is the nominee.

If he were to win, would he be an immediate lame duck?

If he were pledging to only run for one term, it certainly would shake things up.

Like you said, it would make for an immediate lame duck.

It's a gimmick. That's not the way the system works. It's not his age that bothers me, but such a ridiculous promise certainly reflects poor judgment.

Which he has demonstrated again and again.

2. The fact that he needed life insurance to get a loan says a lot

to me.
