Gov. Arnold endorses McCain, his wife endorses Obama?
Did I read that right? I know she's a Kennedy but, she's married to the Governator...Guess Arnold's sleeping on the couch.

NYT: "But they certainly made the most of their shortened time, holding rallies, starting new television advertisements and, in Mr. Obama’s case, accepting another endorsement from the Kennedy family. Maria Shriver, the wife of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of California and daughter of Eunice Kennedy, announced her support, adding force to Mr. Obama’s growing strength in that state."

1. Yep! Maria Shriver......
Shriver said her own endorsement Sunday was a spontaneous decision.

"I thought to myself when I woke up this morning ... there's no place I should be but right here today," she told the celebrity-packed rally headlined by talk show queen Oprah Winfrey, Caroline Kennedy, Obama's wife Michelle, and pop music legend Stevie Wonder.

Obama, Shriver said, "is about the power of us, and what we can do when we come together. Because as everybody up here has said, there is much more that unites us than divides us."

"He is about empowering women, African-Americans, Latinos, older people, young people. He's about empowering all of us."

2. My parents slept in the same bed every night and often canceled out
each other's votes. Independent bodies, independent minds.

4. Damn, that is deep
This is like Biblical proportions, "I come to set mother-in-law against father-in-law; father against son; mother against daughter; etc."

7. Maria SHRIVER Schwarzenegger ...
She's related to the Kennedy's, and has been a life-long Democrat. Did you see her presentation at the rally today? She was terriffic! Did you hear what she said about WHY she was there? She was supposed to be somewhere with her daughter today. Maria told her daughter that she felt like she SHOULD go to the rally. Her daughter told her "Mom, if you're going there today can help even ONE person support Obama, then you NEED to be there today." I guess she stayed backstage during the whole rally, unsure as to whether she would actually speak for Obama or not, then felt she had to commit. She joined her cousin, Caroline Kennedy, her years-long friend Oprah, her friend the organizer and her NEW friend Michelle in adding her voice in support of Obama. The crowd totally ROARED when she made her surprise entrance.

8. she's an INDEPENDENT and FREE woman and can endorse/vote for who she wants to
does not need to listen to Arnold to tell her what to do. Good for Maria.

10. Only unmarried people are amazed at this...
Husbands and wives often disagree on politics... especially in Democratic households, where the women are more likely to be "working women" and independent thinkers and not as likely to defer to their husbands.

My wife and I often disagree on politics... I don't want a "yes-woman" in my marriage... I want someone who challenges me and makes me think!

To me, this shows that Arnie and Maria have STRONG marriage.

Never-married people and conservatives, won't get this.

11. She is a Democrat, he a Republican.
A lot of couples are like this. My parents were. Startng with Nixon dad always voted Republican, my mom always for the Democrat. I don't know why this surprises people. The marriage vows do not include having to be of the same party as your spouse. :-)
