Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 04:23 AM by orleans
that would really help me decide who to vote for in the primary

(and it would be great if they would announce that today--before super tuesday)

1. Are you serious?
Please explain to me why someone on the leadership team of the DLC would choose Bobby Kennedy for their VP.

8. Seriously
I'm trying to understand your thinking process. Are you seriously believing there's a real possibility of that?

I don't know that he has any other skeletons, but there's definitely that.

10. Terrible pick!
Maybe he can win a U.S. Senate seat when one comes open but, unfortunately, this would kill any chance at VEEP:

"In 1983, he was arrested in a Rapid City South Dakota Airport for heroin possession. A search of his carry-on bag uncovered 183 milligrams of the drug. Upon entering a plea of guilty, Kennedy, then 30 years old, was sentenced to two years probation, periodic tests for drug use, treatment by joining Narcotics Anonymous, and 1,500 hours of community service by Presiding Judge Marshall P. Young."

20. That's not accurate.
Robert endorsed Senator Clinton because of her record on environmental issues.

21. Is he in New York?
Because, if he is, he cannot be HRC's VP. You can't have a Veep from the same state.

7. Good question. I wonder too.
I'm sure Hillary has Obama on her short list. People agree Obama/Hillary seems more weird. So who would Obama have? If he's running against McCain, I expect somebody white, with military credentials and plenty of experience. Somebody like Wes Clark? Wild guess there...But somebody along those lines I would expect.

14. Wes Clark is close to the Clintons.
So I'm mentally eliminating him from being Obama's VP.

The man I keep coming back to as being the best choice is John Kerry.

23. I hope not
Being near the Clintons in the 1990s tarnished Gore's record of being about as clean a politician as possible. He also had to compete with a de facto second in command - HRC. Kerry has genuine integrity and would, as he did in the 1990s, be one of the Democrats that would be willing to not just fall in line. He is also well positioned in the Senate and has committed to running for Senate from Massachusetts.

It is also pretty clear that HRC does not like him.

25. That's why he'd be a good choice.
If you're trying to burn the Clintons, your burning the LARGE amount of people in this country who support them, even if Obama does win.

(On edit: It was Joe driving the Jeep.)

16. You're right. But my point still stands
Much as I admire RFK Jr's work in the environmental sphere, his baggage is just too much for anyone to pick him as VP. Besides, I'd much prefer to see him heading the EPA.

17. He would never
Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 07:06 AM by H2O Man
be considered for VP, nor would he ever consider it.

The EPA would be perfect. Or, if Clinton is elected, he might go for the seat his father had.

Addiction issues are still a strange topic in American life. Virtually every extended family in the country deals with it, but there is a lot of denial and shame still. One of my best friend's daughter worked with RFK Jr shortly after he began to practice law. My friend felt that Robert's addiction issues would keep him from ever becoming a US Senator. It was curious, because he thought highly of Senator Moynihan, who never was able to beat the IF.

I have great respect for Robert, not only because of his willingness to help me with an tough Superfund Site case (many thanks to Mark Sullivan, as well). And, as I mentioned in other threads, when my nephew was the victim of a vicious attack by a racist hate gang, Robert went out of his way to provide comfort to my nephew and his parents, and to push for the prosecution of the case as a hate crime. Robert has touched people's lives in ways the general public is unaware of.

22. I knew Bobby many, many years ago
My brother went to Pomfret with him and then later I knew Robert's brother David well. He was, when I knew him, not in good shape. Unless you compared him to David. So I never saw the person he grew up to be. I'm impressed by your story about him and your nephew and I'm impressed by his environmental work. My sister who's a senior analyst at NRDC worked with him there, and thinks quite highly of him.
