Obama Supporters Want to Kill Health Care Reform |
|
Is your slavish support of a celebrity candidate worth making our health care system worse than ever? Obama's Harry & Louise "win at all costs" approach will destroy any meaningful effort at reforming our system of providing health care in the US. I'm not saying it "might" it will.
Why are you willing to destroy our health care system just to support a poorly designed health care plan proposed by a candidate who didn't do his homework?

|
First of all, there is not health care system to destroy, genius. Secondly, although I support Obama, I think Clinton's plan is marginally better, but the two plans share far, far more than they differ.
And of course, you don't know what will happen. Hell, even Paul Krugman doesn't. No one does.
If you're voting solely on healthcare reform, I can see choosing Clinton over Obama, but I'm not a moronic single issue voter. I take many issues into account.
You are full of s**t.

Obama not only praises Reagan, now he is aping the Gingrich Republicans in running the same style of ads that helped kill the 90's version of health care reform.

4. Well, the likelihood that he can get a mandate now is much lower, that's for damn sure. |
|
It's possible, but highly unlikely, because it will be thrown back in his face. We can only see what happens, depending on who gets nominated, but he did do a great disservice to a universial health care system.

The same arguments he uses against Clinton's plan will be used against his own or any reform plan that isn't pretty much status quo.

12. Uh, no. Your candidate will create a plan to benefit her ins. and pharma cos. |
|
Her plan will be structured much the same as medicare part B; allowing only certain high cost drugs vs. generics.
She will garnish wages forcing people to 'buy' her plan; money directly to private insurance cos.
I don't call that reform; just another version of what we already have.

13. Hillary's Romneycare II is NOT Healthcare Reform, it's mandatory corporatization |
|
I'd prefer the HR 676 approach myself, but you stand a better chance of getting to there from Obama's approach than from the Hillary version where everybody would be forcibly "covered" by her corporate contributors.

16. At least she tries to move us to Universal health care-O's plan attempts to reduce costs which will |
|
be eatten up by the healthcare/insurance companys in a few years. If O's plan is enacted, & costs are reduced it will be temporary. Garenteed within 3-5 years the costs will be right back were they are today. Hillary's plan is a fundimental change- whats your guys saying- a change in mind set. O's plan is just more of the same old, same old.

I support Obama. His health plan isn't perfect, but guess what bud.. neither was Edwards and neither is Hillarys. But we're not going to get HR 676 RIGHT NOW. And we have to start somewhere.
You are obviously bitter and upset and angry. Please find something productive to do with your time and energy. You're not changing anyone's mind with your insults and you're embarassing yourself.

Hillary is a celebrity candidate. She famous for marrying Bill. Should would never have been senator of NY if she didn't marry him.
Secondly, if Hillary's health care plan can't take a little scrutiny from Democrats, it's will never pass.
Obama has a meaningful health care plan and it will solve the pressing problems that are immediately solvable. Hillary's plan will never pass.

19. Since when do presidents pass legislation? |
|
Quite frankly, on the issue of health care, all we need from either candidate is to sign a good bill. It doesn't have to be Clinton's plan or Obama's plan. Neither plan will ever come to fruition if we don't elect a Congress that will pass true health care reform legislation.
The real question to ask ourselves is whether either candidate would sign a single-payer bill.

|
because without a strong mover nothing will get through the herd of cats that is Congress.
Say what you will, Obama has weakened his barganing position on this issue. Why is the more interesting question. I'm having a hard time seeing why a progressive politician is so half-way on this really key issue.

29. If you watched the last debate, both of them punted on the issue of single-payer. |
|
Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 10:35 AM by Tatiana
Hillary basically said it wouldn't happen, so here's the next best thing.
Obama, in my opinion is in favor of single-payer (Hillary caught him fudging on that one), but doesn't think it has the political traction yet as a national platform.
NONE of the Big Three would touch single-payer, even though two of them (Edwards and Obama) seemed to favor it at one time. So it comes back to Congress.
Hillary Clinton is not likely to sign a single-payer health care bill. Obama is. I see Obama's plan as a bridge or stepping-stone to a national single-payer system. The health insurance industry is HUGE and one president cannot take on such an industry alone. The movement must come from the citizens and grassroots.
On edit: I agree that it is ideal for the president to be out front on this issue. But I tend to think we give the executive too much power. Our legislators should be out front on this issue, first and foremost, and the president should be supportive of a good plan that the majority of Americans can support. The minimum wage bill and CHIP legislation were drafted and passed by a Democratic Congress that actually did their job without the support of the president. There is no reason why the issue of health care should be any different.
