If McCain is so hated by Repukes, why is he way ahead in most of the polls and scoring big wins? |
|
Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 09:13 AM by MyPetRock
If it's the Repuke base alone that hates him, that base must have shrunk to virtually nothing.
I have been wondering about this disconnect with what we see in McCain's wins and poll results, and the spin about how hated he is by the Repuke base.

3. Granted. But if one is hated then name recognition should be a negative. |

2. The hard right base they are talking about are the Rush Limbaugh, Mark |
|
Levin, Laura Ingraham right wing radio nuts. From what I've read, the Christian right has split between Huckabee and McCain, but I could be wrong. The analysis has been that McCain is pulling the moderates and the independents that lean right. And the RNC is backing McCain strongly.

8. They certainly haven't had the pull they had in the past. I think where |
|
they miscalculated was that they all were rooting for Fred, and not looking at the fact that he was the laziest campaigner ever to run for office. When Fred fell flat, they were left scrambling, trying to find a "Reagan Republican" (whatever the hell that is). Romney has been reinvented by them to be that person. They've virtually wiped out his previous positions on some of their most precious issues, like abortion.
And it's making them furious that many in the media are now calling talk radio "irrelevant". I love it!

12. Bingo. Only the hard-core neocon assholes hate McCain. |
|
Old-timey conservatives and others with sentient thoughts don't object to him.

4. Because everyone else sucks hardcore. |

Ghoul was an abortionist cross-dresser, Romney a rich unlikable flip-flopper from Massachusetts, Huckabee an open-borders tax-hiking economic protectionist, and Thompson a bloated corpse.

7. Depends on what you mean by "the base." |
|
The *ideological* base on the Democrats' side seems to have favored Kucinich and Edwards very heavily (and not just on DU) but both of them did very poorly. The fact of the matter is that the ideological base of both parties are not necessarily the deciding factor in primary wins.

10. What states has he won? |

He's hated in all those states with 3 people and dozens of electoral college votes. That could be the answer.

11. I think it's just the conservative base that hates him. Limbaugh & Hannity are worried to death |

because they realize a McCain run for the WH could put a damper on their careers.

13. Like in the Democratic party, the Washington insiders, who hate McCain, |
|
Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 09:48 AM by fasttense
are out of touch with main stream republic America, they have always been. Rush, O'Rielly, and Ann are now firmly established Washington insiders. Their appeal, or purpose, was never to express and reveal what the average Joe republic felt or thought, but to TELL the average Joe republic what to feel and think. So you have the media Washington insiders saying one thing and the average Joe republic voting another. For some reason, they don't seem able to convince the majority of average Joe republics to vote the way they tell them to, like they have during the last 8 years. I think it's because of the economy.
Our Democratic Washington insiders like Impeachment-is-off-the-table-Pelosi and Give-Telecoms-Amnesty-Harry are also out of touch with main stream Democratic America. However, unlike the republic media Washington insiders, our Air America liberal personalities have not been embraced by the political establishment in Wash DC. Our liberal media personalities, are not Washington Insiders and are more in tune with average Joe Democrats.
